Vegetarians.

Do you tend to tell people you are vegetarian/vegan rather quickly or avoid it as much as possible?

I don't tell people unless it is absoluelty necessary to mention it. Its been easier that way.

I've been some form of vegetarian (started out vegan, then ovo-lacto, and now I'm semi, but only because of protein deficiency) since I was 14, and I'm 22 now, so, 8 years.

I say something if the conversation is appropriate and leans in the direction of it. For example, my dad's therapist asked me if I wanted some deer jerky, and I said, "No, I don't eat red meat." and left it at that.

I tell who I want but never bring it up. If there is a family thing or some dinner I will ask

I don't mind telling adults. I don't go out of my way to say that I'm a vegetarian, nor do I hide the fact that I am. I'll mention it if the topic comes up or if I'm picking a place to eat with people that don't already know.

I don't like telling the kids I babysit. They sometimes pick up on the fact that I never eat food with meat during snacks or dinner. They're all so enthusiastic about eating meat and think I'm a big weirdo. They ask a lot of questions that I don't really feel comfortable answering. I try to keep things light and say, "I really like animals." I'm not going to tell little kids about factory farming... My job is to make sure they're safe, not to preach.

I've been vegetarian for about 11 years, and vegan for the past three of those. I only mention it if it's relevant; I don't like shoving it in people's faces.

My awkward moments stem from when Im at a party or the boyfriends familys house and they only have meat. They offer some and I usually say No Thanks but a few of them know, some forget, but theyre like, "Oh yeah, Shes a vegetarian" and everyone looks at me like I have leprocy. Its actually really funny.

I was felxatrian (I eat meat but only on holidays special occasions, my day to day diet was vegetarian) for a while. Being in the nutrition field the topic just kind of came up naturally.

I've been a vegetarian for going on five years, and am contemplating the switch to veganism. I tell people whenever it's necessary. Say, if I'm going to someone's house, I don't want to sit there rudely not eating the roast chicken they lovingly prepared just because I was too embarrassed no to say I don't eat meat. I also tell people if it simply comes up in conversation, which isn't too often, but happens occasionally. Pretty much everyone I know knows I'm a vegetarian at this point.
