Weight Loss Club. Interested?

Contributor: BBW Talks Toys BBW Talks Toys
As a BBW, I've had to come to grips with the fact that I am overweight. That there's nothing I can do to change the fact that right now I am overweight. That does not mean, however, that I want to always BE a BBW. Quite the contrary. I don't mean to be a stick figure either. So, I am thinking about writing up a proposal to Gary about having a Weight Loss Club here where we can meet and encourage each other, weigh in, share our successes and losses. But I don't want to be the only one at the meeting, so I am wondering if there is an interest in this at all! I mean, we all spend a pretty significant amount of time around here, and I think it could help keep us all accountable if we had a place where we're all doing it together.

Let me know what you think!

[Please note... I put no other because I don't want to discuss the details of what the club could be. I am only interested in determining if there is interest.]

I said yes, but for me I'd prefer to focus on eating healthy foods than the number on the scale. It sounds like a great way for everyone to be supportive though!

This is a great idea, I tend to lack motivation on my own...

I'm not overweight so I'm not too worried about actually losing pounds, but lately I've been wanting to get more fit and eat healthier. I have a really hard time getting motivated to exercise. I would love having a group to help motivate me, but I feel like I wouldn't fit into the group if everyone else was trying to lose a significant amount of weight.

I'm not looking to lose a lot of weight, but I know that it wouldn't hurt me to get fit, and having a group of people willing to share ideas, would probably help me get off my bum.

I don't think I'd have the time to take part, but I think it's a great idea! This community is just so warm and supportive to begin with, I think this would be a great place to do it!

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking about it. We could always have a "Health Club" with sub-groups for weight loss/healthy eating/exercise whatever. Like I said, I just really wanted to know if there was any interest and there is, so I'll send Gary an email.

As long as the focus is on healthy eating and exercise, instead of on starving oneself, it sounds like a great idea. The trouble with online "weight loss" groups is that there's no way for group members to tell if someone in the group is damaging their health with dangerously unrealistic goals -- someone could say they want to lose 40 pounds, when they actually don't have it to spare.

I honestly think this is a great idea, BBW!

Last week (some of you all may know) I went to the doctor who told me that I needed to lose weight and also that I may be diabetic. And even after I had just gotten comfortable about my current weight too

I do agree with ToyGeek though, but I don't think that with a community such as EF, that we will have a problem with the "Starve yourself" type of weight loss group. And we all can use an extra helping of motivation, especially when it comes to getting healthy

So, in short, I'm definitely interested! And I have a feeling it'd help alot

I'd be into it. I've been wanting to lose some weight but am having a pretty hard time sticking with it.

I'd definitely be interested. Having motivation and support from a warm community like this could really give me (and others) the push I need to make healthier choices and be more active. Stellar idea, BBW.

I'd love for some people to give ideas for healthy and quick meals for those of us NOT so skilled in the cooking area.

I would join. It's definitely easier to live a healthier lifestyle when you have tons of encouragement from others.

I would love to join and have the support and encouragement. I've lost 30 pounds so far, but it's really difficult. I'm not losing weight to be "skinny and beautiful," but I'm solely doing it for health reasons. I don't want to die of a heart attack at 30. And I also want to maintain my figure. I love my curves and don't want to loose so much weight that I become a sickly looking stick. Let me know what happens with this program idea.

I would be in on this! I have been wanting to get back into my Wii Fit routine, but I lost my motivation over the stress I've had lately. I could use all the help I can get. I want to have another child, but I will not go through pregnancy being obese again. I was 240 pounds when I got pregnant with my son. It was a VERY uncomfortable pregnancy, and I have twenty pounds over that to deal with now. I don't mind being plus sized, but it isn't healthy. I need to lose at least 60 pounds before I even consider getting pregnant again. I'm pretty tall, so my best weight is 160. I know I won't get down to that any time soon, but I need to at least get down to 200. My son is two this weekend and I don't want a huge gap in their ages, so I need to really do this this year. I don't think 60 pounds is unrealistic. I have a friend who has lost 75 pounds in like six months through Weight Watchers, so I know I can do it. I just need help!

Ooooh! This would be fun!!! I'm not really worried about my weight as much as my health. I need to eat better and exercise or I'm going to be miserable when I'm old. Also, my sis has lost 60 pounds. She used to be a little bigger than me. No one in my family is a healthy weight and seeing her get in shape is inspiring. I'm so proud of her!

So I'm going to write up a proposal to Gary and send it in tonight. 23 votes for yes substantiates a big enough group that I think we can make this happen!

I voted yes because I would interested in this sorta thing. Even though I am not over weight. In fact I am rather underweight. I am a on high calorie diet and ...its hard to eat as much I need to in a day just stabilize my weight. I honestly feel like it isn't possible to reach my goal sometimes. I would be interested in this if I was allowed to come in talk about healthy eating and meeting my own goals : )

Yes, you would. I dubbed it the "Health Club" with the intention of supporting each other with our own health/fitness goals, whatever they may be.

I was thinking that perhaps, if the proposal goes through, that maybe there would be a "Biggest Loser" type of contest, but we're not there yet.

I think it sounds like a great idea! I've always wanted to get in better shape and loss some weight but it's so anti-motivating without friends and a support group.
