Anyone else weirded out by the masses of crazy news lately?

Warning! This thread contains mention of the ick factor that has been happening lately in the news! There is mention of really freaky, gross stuff! You have been warned!

So, first we have a guy eating another guy's face. Then, we have ANOTHER guy eating people's body parts. Then we've got the crazy guy ripping out his own intestines and throwing them at the cops. Of course there's the crazy guy in Canada (the one they've been trying to find for 2 years after torturing and killing cats/kittens) who has been mutilating and dismembering bodies and mailing out the parts. We can't ignore the craziness of the shoot-out where two innocent bystanders were shot, because the guys were fighting over who made the best kool-aid. Then we have the new insect-bite transmitted "AIDS" epidemic.

So really...anyone else really creeped out? less

Except for the AIDS thing (which I'm guessing is not actually AIDS, as it was put in quotes?), not especially. I mean, it's seriously creepy as all hell, but sick shit like this probably happens more than we think it does. I've heard that face-eating-guy was possibly on PCP, mailing body parts around has certainly happened before, and some sad individuals really will kill each other over stupid shit like kool-aid. As a species, humans can be pretty sick fucks at times. less

Just to clarify, "bath salts" that Peggi mentioned is a street term for a new to the USA amphetamine. Not the stuff you put in your bath. I guess the stuff looks like bath salts or something.

I don't really think things are "weirder" than they ever were. I just think we have a 24 hour news feed of the entire world, and when anything weird (than in newspaper days would have never been reported, as these are usually local stories and anomalies at that) happens, it gets into the net, and everybody hears about it. Also, it's harder to pay people off to hide news stories, like it used to be.

Look at Elzabet Bathory, in the.... 16th century, I think. She murdered hundreds of young women to bathe in their blood so she would stay young. She got House Arrest when she was finally caught, but she was ignored for dozens of years, because she was RICH and news feeds were slow, and she was praying mostly on poor girls at first. When she started running a school for other rich people's daughters and those girls never were heard from again, THEN the shit hit the fan. BUT, the story didn't get "out" until over 100 years after the fact.

That's only one example. People always do weird things, but now with every person having a phone and a camera on that phone all the time, ALL weird things get onto the newsfeed and everybody hears about them. And, it's more difficult to hide. less

Sadly, some people do actually get a high off of the bath salts that you can buy at the store for your bath! I once knew a girl who did this on a regular basis, and she did get REALLY high. Eventually she ended up having really awful nose bleeds though, the same kind that people who inhale bathroom cleaners get, with the scarring and all in the nose. Yuck! But yeah, they did get their name (the bath salts mentioned here) because they apparently do look like actual bath salts, and even come in different pretty colors! And make you act crazy!

I guess that is very true, it's just covered more nowadays. I have heard some pretty sick and twisted reports in the past, it just keeps cropping up more and more. I think it's also how frequently they are happening that has the attention towards them. Probably lots of copycats! less

There might be kinds that look like giant crystals, but the ones I have seen are really fine powders. They come in a little lip balm container. I've seen bath salts. We had a huge problem here in Cleveland with them. They made illegal here before the Fed's did. less

I'm gettin' old, Beck. I'm falling behind on this stuff. I used to be up on all this stuff. Now, being older and certainly not seeing this stuff among my friends anymore, having two older kids (out of High School) and my youngest in Middle School and.. an unusual kid, I'm not in the Dope Loop anymore. less

new "AIDS" outbreak story from kissing bugs, porn star dismembering bodies (there is a 10 minute video of him dismembering a body and doing creepy things but I won't link it, if you WANT to watch it, you gotta look it up yourself!) man gets his face eaten off (there are photos of the guys face, but again, gotta look for those on your own). From my own home state, maryland man dismembers and eats parts of a guy. Detroit shoot-out over kool-aid.
