What is your favorite type of food?

Contributor: Selective Sensualist Selective Sensualist
As far as ranking goes, that is so difficult!

For me, it is a three-way tie for first place:

1.) Thai = Japanese = Mediterranean (Greek, Lebanese, Arabic)
2.) Indian
3.) Italian
4.) Mexican (We also love Spanish and Peruvian cuisines -- as well as other South American cuisines, which are all quite a bit different from Mexican food).
5.) Cajun seafood (Oh, yeah, this was left out, too!)
6.) French
7.) Soul food (ties with barbecue, which -- when done right -- is simply amazing)

I absolutely love it all.

Some very cool history, thanks for that.

When I grew up in Colorado "BBQ" was anything that was cooked over a flame outside, usually with Charcoal. But when I worked down south for a couple of years that was called "Grilling", "BBQ" is what I knew as smoking.

I was told once by an old timer (down south) that smoking/BBQ started as a way to cook cheap cuts of meat, usually tough and hard to chew. If you cook a Brisket on a grill it will be hard to eat and very chewy, take that same Brisket and smoke it and it will melt in your mouth, same with ribs. Just a bit more information for all.

I could live off Chinese food. Damn all this talk about food is making me HUNGRY!

There's nothing like a plate of my momma's fried chicken, greens, fried okra, mashed potatoes and gravy with a platter of freshly sliced tomatoes and cucumbers. Mmm-mmmmm yum! I'd say the biscuits as well but I'm not much of a bread eater these days.

I love Italian because anything covered in cheese and red sauce is awesome! I guess the same can be said for Mexican foods.

I like American style food but usually get chicken dishes instead of hamburgers or hot dogs if given the choice.

I looooove food! I could not pick one. Maybe I picked too many. There are certain dished I love from various cuisines that I don't really consider a favorite.

The foods that make me happy any day are:

Indian
Thai (especially if I can get without nam pla!)
Middle Eastern

I also like Chinese (dishes closer to authentic), Italian, Mexican a lot but they are not quite favorites.

I should add Japanese food to the poll. But as I'm vegetarian, it is tainted in my mind with fish. There are few authentic foods I can eat. I modify some Japanese to be vegetarian at home, especially Japanese fusion dishes like curry. I'm going to die if I stay in Japan long. A somewhat plump vegan friend lived there for a month and came back looking almost slim. I was terrified (I'm right under the underweight line.)! Even a lot of Japanese snack foods include seafood. I stopped liking seafood as a child. Also, I don't support the overfishing of the seas, a serious matter largely overlooked.
