... postulate of Euclidean geometry?

Okay, I admit this is a jab at all the poor title choices lately for discussions. I become annoyed when I click on a discussion only to find out it had nothing to do with what I thought it did. I consider it a trick & waste of my time. But, then again I am sleep deprived right now & cranky!

So, how do you feel about discussion titles that are completely unhelpful, or downright misleading about the actual discussion topic? Maybe I am the only one noticing it, let alone a but miffed about it?

Oh, feel free to answer the original question, too!

That's SO ANNOYING. If I didn't see that you were the author of this post, I wouldn't have clicked. If a discussion title has no thought put into it, the question itself is also terrible 99% of the time. It's especially aggravating when it's a user who has been on the site for a while and still does this consistently.

By the way, I really like the second postulate about straight lines extending indefinitely.

Whenever i make discussion post i always try to make sure it is an outline of what my post will be, so i agree when post have a vague title like, "what your favorite" or "would you..." i tend to skip over them (unless it's by a user whos post i often find interesting).
i feel like the influx of new post titled like such are due to new members in their trial period trying to complete task.

I try not to click those posts either, but I am seeing so many of them now and not just by newbies! It's just one example of problems going on now & I wonder why they continue to get comments? I suppose it's wishful thinking to hope others would ignore the spammy posts & let them die instead of helping them along!

OMG,I love that you answered that math question as well!! I think my favorite is the parallel postulate, number 5, because it has been the source of such debate, yet it stands despite efforts to try & dismiss or change it!

I agree with both of you. I find it tricky and annoying and almost attention getting(whoring).

I also don't like that. I don't post discussions very often, but if I do post, I try to make it at least somewhat obvious what the post is about. Sometimes the question is too long for a title, but I do my best to make the topic clear.

As you said, it's not just new members doing it either. What bugs me most is when it is clearly a post being made just for the points. I know the mods check the boards, but they can't spend all day here. I don't blame them at all, just to clarify. I just wish more people would realize the forums aren't just a place to collect points.
