What was your greatest most irrational childhood fear?

I'm still thinking about mine, but I think it was quicksand!

Mine were mainly based around dark, evil stories. Not ghost stories but we're talking dismembered limbs, evil things in the shadows. I remember at one time I took 30 second showers, basically praying at the top of my lungs. lol I still don't really care for dark suspenseful slasher films. Too stressful.

I feared the devil would snatch my soul through my exposed back if it was not under a blanket when I could feel the cold night air on it.

I think I had a variation of that. I couldn't sleep unless I was under my blankets because I just felt too exposed and vulnerable to whatever monsters were in my room.

I don't think it's irrational..but I used to be so scared of our house burning down. I would have dreams a few nights a week about the house burning, and we all get out except for the cat. I spent lots of nights between mommy and daddy thanks to those! In hindsight, I'm sure they *loved* that

Disembodied hands under the bed. I had more than one nightmare about them. Eventually, I guess my mind got tired of such things and I dreamed that I defeated them.

As a teen, I was terrified of the attic of my parents' house. They would call it irrational, but as they say in Room 1408, "It's an evil f-ing room." I'm in my 30's now and I still stand by it.

And I had a variation on this, too! I slept on my side & had to pull the blanket up over my ear or it was going to be chopped off by some creepy guy. Fortunately that only lasted a few weeks. I must have seen something on TV that upset me, even though there wasn't much scary on TV in the early 70's.

I had the hands under the bed scare, too. I would even jump off the bed & get a running start to leap on the bed while coming back, say when going to the bathroom at night.

I think there must have been something about that attic that you were picking up on. I had a similar fear of the attic at a house I babysat in. Turns out, years later, I heard from both my sister & my brother, that they too, heard strange noises & felt menace from the attic when they babysat. I didn't even know my brother babysat there before. We all agreed it didn't matter day or night, it was creepy as hell. I have the hair standing up in my neck right now just writing about it & remembering! So, that's my long winded way of saying, I stand by your gut feeling on your parents' attic!

E.T. the extraterrestrial. That movie scared the crap out of me. I dreamed that he ate my toes. (scary!)
I was TERRIFIED of E.T.! From the time I was 4 years old until I was probably 12. It was awful! My mom told me when I was 4 I would request to watch it over and over again and didn't tell her until months later and it scared the crap out of me. I used to think he was hiding in the suitcase under my bed that had all my doll clothes in it. Ehh...horrible!

Oh! I forgot about this one: being eaten by escalators. My mom told us to always keep our shoes tied, because she had a friend whose untied laces got caught in the steps and the escalator pulled her down and she had to get stitches in her ass.

But, you could twist your ankle, lose your balance, fall & hit your head on the curb, (or something), and die! Or you could just drop your keys down them by accident. Any way you look at it, those grates are a safety hazard!

PS,I'm just teasing you a little, not intending to be mean!
