What weird food do you like?

On my recent trip to China, I was able to try these little durian pastries at a dim sum place. They call them "liulan soo" and look exactly like this except they were golden brown instead of green. Now, supermarkets and grocery stores in China all smell like durian because it's such a stinky fruit but it's available at just about any place that sells fresh fruit, and it's not a wonderful smell. It smells sweaty, stinky, kind of rotten... but the pastries were surprisingly good! They still retained some of the strong smell, but they were balanced out with a certain amount of sweetness and the pastry matched it well.

I was also able to try another durian dessert, which was kind of like a mochi ball with cold durian pulp and whipped cream filling. This was MUCH harder to eat, because the fruit wasn't as mashed up and "altered" like it was in the pastry, so it retained a lot of the original flavor. It tasted sweet, but also bitter, and stunk SO much, but I'm determined to like most new foods I try, so I chewed it more, and to my surprise, it started tasting like alcohol, which I have NO problem with whatsoever.

All in all, crazy terrible aroma, but if you trudge through it, it actually tastes pretty ok. Most people I know who like it say that it's an acquired taste, but once you get used to it, it's sort of an addiction o_O

Last week I was started on a prescription cough syrup with cherry flavor. I don't know why, but I think it tastes awesome. I love the taste of Peptobismol too. French fries ... more
I eat catchup on potato chips, too. It's like french fries! I LOVE sushi, especially with the green stuff.

When I was a kid, I used to eat peanut butter and mayonnaise all the time. I still eat cashew butter and jelly sandwiches with lettuce in them.

I put lemon juice and powdered sugar on my pancakes.

I like liver sausage. My Man can not enter the room while I am eating it. The smell of liver makes him sick.

When I eat steak, I have to have Pub Sauce on it, and either mashed or baked potato with tomatoes with balsamic vinegar on them. I have to have EVERY BITE with all this together. If we are out of balsamic, I use Italian Dressing, but it isn't as good. I've been known to cry if we are out of Pub Sauce.

MMMM, I LOVE Pasta with Puttanesca. The word comes from a harbor town in Italy, where the prostitutes would make this for their customers, who would come back from sea, both hungry and horny! The word "Puttana" means "prostitute" or "whore" in regional Italian.

I make mine with tomato paste (one can) 2 large cans of imported crushed tomatoes, a large can of imported whole tomatoes, lots of olive oil, garlic, (only real garlic will suffice) basil, oregano, Chianti (some at the beginning, after you cook down the paste in the olive oil) and some at the end, plenty of parsley, BITTER Italian olives (the purple ones) some green olives, , capers (a little) a few anchovy fillets, chopped fine. Then cook ALL DAY. Add artichoke hearts about 20 minutes before serving or they will disappear. Add some more Chianti and salt right before serving. YUM! If you really like anchovy, add a few slightly cut up right before it's done cooking, so you can find them.

One of my kids used to make anchovy sandwiches when I would make Puttanesca Sauce.

My Man and I got in the habit of calling it "Whore Sauce" years ago, so even our kids call it this. *sigh* "Not in front of Grandma, huh?"

I have always had weird things to eat when I was a kid; Like sniping turtle and squirrel soup, which is really good, freshly cought frog legs, road kill deer steaks(it had been die for 10mins. My dad was the one who hit her). Now, for weird food, I eat raunch on almost everything; pizza, corndogs, hotdogs, steak, BBQ ribs, pork chops, hot wings, fried chicken, ok there is just too much.

I like smoked eel. Oh man, so good. My family used to vacation on Long Island, and we'd catch eel in the bay, take it down to the local fish market and have it smoked. So delicious. And eel sushi, I'm all about that too.

I apparently used to like duck eggs, but I haven't had them in years and don't really remember what they taste like. Who knows if I like them now or not.

Gosh, I'll eat anything that isn't beef.

I go out into the forest and seashore and eat the edibles I find there. I've eaten live food more times than I can recall. I love fried insects. I enjoy pork tongue. I adore kim chee.

As I said, I'll eat pretty much anything.

I also confess to liking pickles and ice cream. I went out to dinner with a few of my friends once and the dinner came with a slice of pickle that didn't get eaten right way, and happened to still be there when we ordered a hot fudge sundae to share for dessert. I saw it sitting there and went "oh, what the hell" and gave it a shot. It was fantastic. Also fantastic with warm hot fudge too.

Country Fried Steak with Tomato Gravy instead of white gravy.

Grilled cheese dipped in ketchup.

Dill pickles dipped in BBQ sauce.

French fries in A1 sauce.

Spicy pork rinds.

Mozzarella sticks dipped in cocktail sauce.

Strawberries dipped in banana baby food.

Green olives and white grapes with sharp cheddar slices on Triscuits.

Tater Tots with a drop of sour cream and a drop of A1 sauce.

And I will not eat: eggs, mushrooms, or sausage.

I put ranch on a lot of things, including pizza, but never thought to do it on spaghetti. I've only done the hot sauce on pizza really, La Preferita on Home Run Inn pizza is the bomb, lol

Love tomato and mayo sandwiches! Especially on a hot summer day with a slightly chilled tomato. Maybe a few slices of fresh cucumber on the side.

OMG, yes!!! Also, I love the marrow from osso bucco spread on good bread, most things can be improved with some mayo or lemon/lime juice. I love dipping my french fries in garlic-lemon aioli. Smoked/salted herring on Ritz with a nice dark beer... my mouth's watering

Hmmm, I like ketchup on my Macaroni. I never used to be able to eat it without it. I'm moving away from that habit.

I also recently discovered fried pickles at Hooters of all places. Dude, they're awesome and the sauce that goes with them is great too. I didn't think I'd like them. It's such a strangely good taste. They're addictive as hell.

Other stuff...I like a lot of weird foreign foods and food spicy to the point of it making my eyes well up. I sometimes make a point of trying weird food to make sure my friends/and/or/roommat es won't eat or ask to eat my food. They're all mostly picky eaters. I'm the adventurous type.

Also, I had a ham casserole with maple syrup on it when I was inebriated once. It still tasted good when I was sober. Yeah, that one worries me a little bit too.

I do like non-weird foods as well. Lol

Oh yea ranch is the best on spaghetti...we never have a spaghetti dinner w/o it. I usually only put ranch on pizza with jalapenos especially if the jalapenos are on the hot side...kinda cools the hotness down.

weird food, how about ketchup, potato chip and white bread sandwiches?

weird stuff I like;
candied Ginger
Rose or Lavender flavored candy
shortbread with Anise seed
horehound candy

I like Japanese food, but since that wouldn't be weird if I didn't live in Texas I won't go into that.

Oh Candied Ginger is good, have you tried chocolate covered ginger?
I also like Kimchi, the hotter the better, the same with Saki Ika, spiced dried squid.
