When did you first encounter a computer?

I remember being five years old on a Mac program for kids. It was awesome! I've pretty much lived with computers my whole life.

My dad brought one home in the late 90s when I was 9 or so. I got into playing games on it immediately.

Back in the late 1970s in grade school. We had a suitcase size computer with a 100ish baud modem and about a 4" screen. We could sign it out of the library and bring it home even and play games online. They were just text based though. Golf and Bowling I remember. Not exciting by today's standards, but was cool at the time.

My family loved technology and held technology-based jobs, so I don't remember a time without them.

I was about 3 or 4 (80 or 81) when Dad got a Texas Instrument keyboard computer that cartridge programs had to be inserted. He set it up so that he could write programs onto audio cassette tapes hooked up to it. I learned how to draw "word art" with using the "X" key and their word processing program.

My parents had a family friend who built a Tandy Home Computer from a kit. If I remember correctly, it was probably late 70s, early 80s. I was never allowed to touch it. I do remember the "memory" was two cassette tape drives. (Wow. I'm dating myself.)

If my memory serves correctly, it was similar to this one.

LOL! I remember the man used the family television for a monitor, much to the sadness of his children, who couldn't watch TV while Daddy was programming.

1984. We were one of the few people I knew who had a personal computer. Mom brought it home from work when they upgraded that year. It was cool. In first grade (1986) we had Apple II e computers to learn how to type and play Oregon Trail.

Well maybe not my whole life but as far back as I can remember. My parents had an old mac from way back. This was before the internet and when the only form of storage was a floppy drive. I think that's still in the attic somewhere...
