When's the last time you went on a 1 week or longer vacation?

I am going to Chicago next month. It'll be my first time in the city, my first time flying with my husband and the first time meeting his family. (I say husband because in our hearts we are married to each other, but not legally.)

I'm terrified, excited, and have a million things to do before then. First and foremost: SHOPPING! I need at least two really nice, weather appropriate dresses. Unfortunately, that might be a problem. Where I live the climate is vastly different than Chicago and all our winter-y/cool weather clothing is already off the rack. I'm hoping to get lucky to find a good sweater/skirt or shawl/dress combination.

I've never been on a vacation that long. I think 4 days has been the longest with Hubby and I went to Disney world with my family for 5 days when I was a teenager.

Wow... this thread inadvertently made me feel pretty depressed. It's been over 5 years since I have had more than just a long weekend away. Damn.

its been a loooooooong time. My wife and I don't have the kind of money, we usually just go on weekend vacations once in a blue moon.
