One of my friends is a beautician and I go to her salon. My hair is down to my butt, but I do keep it trimmed and have long layers.

Salons can get really expensive. But some people are really good and can make you look better than you thought was possible, which is a great feeling.

I go to a salon every 6 months of so for a cool really sharp hairstyle and then go to cheap local places to maintain it.

I'm not sure how people can cut their own hair. When looking in the mirror everything is all backwards and my hands get confused and the scissors keep missing the hair.

I mostly just let it grow, trim split ends when I find them. I just cut off about 4 inches though, much healthier looking now.

I go to a salon about once or twice a year if I am not dyeing it. I get a trim and it thinned.

I trust salons more, but they can be so expensive! I accidentally spent one hundred and thirty dollars on a haircut one time when the stylist didn't tell me how much she was charging until after she had already cut my hair.

They cut hair at WalMart? What don't they do there? (the following rant is not aimed at Beginner1)

Oh, wait, I know, they don't pay their workers enough & don't provide health insurance! Because they keep them on sub-poverty wages, they are automatically qualifying them for Medicaid. They found a nifty loophole in the law that has all other businesses having to provide health insurance. WalMart circumvents the law requiring them to provide health insurance, instead they are forcing the states to do it for them for free!...end of rant

The salon is a very big treat for me that I really only get once a year. The rest of the time I trim my own.

I keep my hair pretty long so I get a simple trim and some light layers done at the salon, but not very frequently.

Whatever is closet when I get the balls to actually get my hair cut.

I have been trying to grow my hair out, but I can never seem to get it past my shoulder blades. Those ruddy people at the hair places when I say "trim" I MEAN TRIM!!! Not half a foot. And because I wear glasses... I cannot see. I bring a friend, they are all Chinese. So they don't want to loose face with the hair dresser- at least I think it is this. Or else, the hairdresser person just all of them accidently cut too much and have to make up for it.

In any case, it is hair. It grows back.

But I still cry every time my hair gets cut.

I go to a salon, but I give myself trims in between if I can't wait until my appointment.

I usually wait until it gets to long to bear, go to a salon, vow to come more regularly and then repeat the process.

I will occasionally splurge for a salon cut. If I'm going to pay money, I'm going to get it done right. And I'm picky, so once I find someone who cuts it how I like it, I'll keep going back to her as long as she's still in the area.

That only happens once or twice a year, though. In between, I cut my own, and I've gotten pretty good at it from watching my hair stylist. I get complimented on my haircut a lot!

We have a regular salon and someone who works there regularly and has for years, that styles my hair. She is great at long looks or up-do's, so she is versatile. She even cuts my hubby's hair the way he likes it.
