My partner and I own guns (shotguns and rifles) and I've received firearm training. Some of my guns are safely locked up, but some of them we have on a gun rack on the wall. My brother is dragging his feet in getting his pistol permit, and I'm seriously thinking about getting mine soon, because my dad has some that are considered family heirlooms, and if something were to happen to my father we'd really like to keep them in the family.

I'd also like to say that it really annoys me that the media seems to be focusing on firearms lately as being bad, instead of focusing on the things that are really the problem.

Yes! I keep a short sword and a combat knife handy. I don't care if an intruder's armed with a bazooka--I'll have the element of surprise and they will NOT be glad they chose my house.

I can't agree that there's NO difference. Most potentially-dangerous items weren't designed specifically to kill at a distance. Firearms deserve special respect, care and precautions, in my opinion. This is a point that was stressed repeatedly in my concealed carry class, and in the other firearms safety class I took.

It IS good to know that someone else recognizes how dangerous cars can be. Driving or riding in a car is the most dangerous thing most people do in their entire lives and precious few understand how deadly that actually is.

Once I turn 21 I would like to get a small handgun for protection, being a woman.

There are no guns in my house. there are hunting guns at my parents and my in laws houses which are kept locked up.

My three get to handle and talk about then every time I clean them . Hope it is enough to curb their curiosity

I own guns, and most are kept in the gun safe. My kids are all old enough and have had training as well, they also own guns.
