How do I send in info on someone I think is point farming?

Willow Wand Willow Wand
I got a "Useful" rating on one of my reviews, and went to go ask them what they thought I could do to make it better, when I saw that ALL this person does is rate reviews "Useful" or "Somewhat Useful" and got pretty upset about it. I am sure they didn't even read my review. Didn't leave a comment, just rated. Thanks in advance!

I think the final word on this is that you're NOT supposed to ask why someone voted the way they did. There's a post about it somewhere.

Anyway, you can report possible point farming to admin. Someone wiser than I will know exactly who. Kristi, maybe?

Oh I am not asking that. I want to know what they think I can do to make my post better. Is that not allowed? I have been doing that for anyone who posts less than EU. I have received some good feedback.

While what you're suggesting is possible, it's also possible that, if it's a contributor account that does nothing but vote less-than-extremely-us eful, it might be a normal contributor's "secret identity" so they feel they can give "less than EU" votes without getting retaliation votes in return.

Not really sure what the official stance on having second accounts like that is, but since just voting on reviews isn't really a high-points-generating activity, I don't think it's very likely that it's a point farmer.

More than that, though, useful is not a bad vote! Useful votes are like a B on your report card, which means "better than average." Voting is subjective, so we just have to take what we get! (I got my first ever "worth reading but not useful" vote on my last review, but the voter didn't give me a comment saying what I could improve, so I just let it roll off my shoulders.)

Thanks. I am just wanting to know what I could have done in their eyes to make it better, you know? I add a lot of detail, pictures, stories, I put a lot into it, but if I am missing something important, I want to know how I can fix it. BTW, I was NEVER a B student in school

It is my understanding that we are not supposed to. Some people were getting upset over it and wanted to be able to vote in peace. I think the official word is to let the votes be and not ask why or what you can do to improve no matter how great of feedback you may get from it.

While I do get upset with less than EU votes, I agree with Antipova. It's like a B. That's still good.

I know! I had spent a lot of time researching and making sure that was a good review, and then my first vote was 'useful' because I mentioned a materials allergy that the product page had overlooked (at least we got that cleared up in the comments, so I felt better right away), but then the second vote was WRBNU. I was like, "oh, I am not a good reviewer anymore!" And then I made myself get over it.

I always think of Misha's Amusements, who was a really wonderful reviewer. He left before I joined, but every time I'd come across a product and saw that Misha's Amusements had done a review, I'd be really excited and eager to read it. They were almost without exception extremely useful to me, but every time I'd vote, I'd see that lots of other people had voted WRBNU or NUAA. As I found my way around the site more, and read some history, I see that people used to vote low because the reviewer was coming from a different perspective (like an FTM perspective), or if the product in question was not something they would use (like a packing cock).

So sometimes even if the review is the most useful writing possible, you're going to get a bum vote or two because other people don't see things the same way you do.

it would be a good idea to not jump the gun on this one. Sometimes, reviewers can be a little more critical and offer harsher ratings than most. Useful reviews are not bad reviews, it just means you did what you needed to do. EU ratings I feel are reserved for those who have gone above and beyond with pictures, extreme detail, etc.

If the reviewer is seriously point farming, then they're probably leaving smiley faces around the site or not contributing at all.

if it really, REALLY irks, then I guess you send Kristi a note and express your concerns.

If you see someone point farming, contact Kristi or me.

For voting, it's a personal thing. Different things work for different people. As above, "Useful" isn't a bad vote at all.

We have discussed asking contributors for the reason(s) why the vote the way they do. Please read it.

I know what you are feeling, I get useful votes sometimes and I am like my review has the same amount of detail they always do and the same person rated previous ones EU, but everyone is different. I try not to let the voting get to me, because as long as I am happy with the review, that is all that matters. One useful vote out of the other extremely useful vote does not hurt the rating of the review. I do flag the smiley face comments on my own reviews. I hate when I check my review and there is a smiley or TY, come on at least type... Thanks for the great review. It only takes a few seconds.

Oh and since you should not ask the rater what you could do to improve the review, what you could do is get a mentor to do so

Also, you will never always get the votes you think your reviews should. Questioning contributor's reasons can easily be taken the wrong way. It's best to err on the side of caution and not contact people at all.

Certainly does - especially when everyone else votes Extremely Useful and the reason the person voted so low was just bullshit. I think some people don't know how to vote cause to me, one teeny thing left out of a review (nothing to do with material or anything like that) doesn't warrant such a low vote.
To me, the person just looks petty!

A useful rating is a decent rating. I also hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if this site didn't offer points for voting, the number of voters would drastically decrease. As for myself, I usually don't vote below somewhat useful because I feel like reviews have such strict guidelines that they always contain something interesting. However, I don't think I should have to explain my vote, as it's an opinion, and the vote doesn't change.
