I'm not interesting in watching someone elses wedding. I don't know them personally, so I don't think it's any of my business.
I'll watch not because it's someone else's wedding but because it's a cultural spectacle. I'm curious about random things like the architecture of Westminster Abbey and the design of the metal armor of the footmen. I'm sure some fashion, jewelry and Fabergé eggs will be so over-the-top that they'll be worth gawking at for a few seconds. I'll record it all on my DVR and fastforward past most of the tedium.

My mother is insane.

She asked me to bake a 'wedding cake' for her. Devil's food chocolate cake mixed with raspberry curd, and decorated with chocolate frosting.

Well, at least it's giving me a chance to practice my decorating skills.

Although if she really does wake me up at 3a, I am going to make her regret ever giving birth to me.

I am watching it now!! T-T I am amazed by how many people are there obviously from around the world, by the grandeur of Westminster Abbey, by the over the top hats. And I am happy with how in love this royal couple seems. How could I not wish them well?

Agreed. I just finished watching it. It was gorgeous. And you can SEE the love between Wills and Kate (the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) during the ceremony. I am so happy for them - two hopeful, optimistic, hard-working, in-love people whose nuptials allowed some happiness into all the current anger and cynicism around us.

I have watched nothing of it but I did record it. I figured if they talk about it at school today my daughter will be wondering what all the hype is about and I can show her the ceremony.

It wasn't THAT poofy, but definitely had some poof going on at the bottom. I guess I just prefer mermaid cut or generally sleek/fitted looking dresses. I hate any poof at all.

They had to balance the required train. Sleek/mermaid wouldn't have worked with a train. Nonetheless, it was LOADS better than Diana's.

Ok so after you said that I rant to the living room to fast forward until she walked. I dont hate it but I dont love it. I would see her in something sleek but flowy. but, at the same time, I guess those simple gowns are not something a princess is supposed to wear.

It was good for the occasion.

I did get all "awwwww" when he finally saw her and you saw his mouth say "you look beautiful"

This is all quite ridiculous. All the hype. I know people who stayed up all night and drank mimosas to "celebrate"

My RL FB statuses regarding this crap:

I was sleeping instead of watching strangers get married. I am neither IN GB nor FROM GB and don't see why a ridiculously staged wedding that costs more than we will ever earn in half our lives is of any significance

and I haven't watched the eagles in Decorah either... zzzz... but I think I'd rather watch that then some wedding for people I don't know.

oh... and And yes, I'm cynical, cranky and very very tired of hearing about "Will and Kate" I'm ready to retch over it all

BUT my favorite status came from a friend and made me laugh hysterically about the whole situation: I'm only watching the royal wedding for the bishop. I've always wanted to see a person who only moves diagonally.

I think the train tradition is ridiculous. Yes yes, you're royalty and rich so you can afford x yards of extra fabric. BLAH.

I definitely agree on the train tradition - such a pain to carry all that material around and it looks like a little girl wearing mommy's 'big girl' dress. It's purely for visual reasons - look at how many overhead camera shots there were of it.

I see it as wasted money and getting tired of it. I didn't watch it. How many starving people could be fed on that money they spend on the entire thing. It's a one day event.. I don't like it when the rich waste their money this bad. Publicly.

I definitely agree with quite a few sentiments here. I tried my best to ignore all the hullabaloo because it's trivial and irrelevant to my and most other people's daily lives.

I definitely carry the American way of thinking shared by many here that this is a parade of the exceedingly wealthy who think they are, by right of their deity, better or higher than everyone else. I don't believe in monarchy or in gentry hierarchical system. They were born lucky and rich, but not better than anyone else. And the hippie in me is definitely bitter about the cost of this wedding, a single day in a year that only invited the rich to partake in it, when there are people dying of hunger, curable disease, or just lost everything to a natural disaster.

I'm glad they're happy, of course. And I'm glad some people watched it seeking that "warm, fuzzy" feeling.

But I hated the sterile, sexist, fire-and-brimstone service. >_< But that's the kind of stuff I hate every day living in the Bible belt anyway.

And her dress was certainly better than Diana's but still a little... old fashioned and poofy.

My parents are recording it on the DVR so I can watch it in a few weeks when I get home. I want to see it partly because I'm constantly trying to pull back to my British heritage, but also because my Celtic Romanticism class has been talking about a ton of themes that apply to the wedding and its symbolic nature for the country.

We fought not one but two wars to get away from this crap. So why is it that there will be nothing else on TV all day today? Geez.
