I am trying to write an article on LGBT issues. I am struggling to narrow it down to just one or two things. What topics are interesting in the LGBT area to others?

The most obvious one is gay marriage. Another that I think should should be highlighted is LGBTs in parental roles (SPOILER: kids with same-sex parents are no better or worse than kids with a mum and a dad link).

That, or whether or not gay people really do have a better fashion sense than straight people ...

What I find interesting is the effects that it has on a family. My sister is lesbian and recently decided she wants to change her gender to male. While I support her decision I've been working through my own inner feelings about it. It's hard to work through the thoughts that the little sister that was always with me like a shadow will not be my "sister" anymore. While I get that the person going through it would have their own issues to work out it isn't really recognized that so do the closest people to them. Hope that made some sense.

It does make sense. I have a few friends and a former partner who transitioned from female to male. Particularly with my former partner I got to see first hand the struggles that his family had with it and still continue to have.

I would be really interested to see an article about health related issues in the LGBT community. Namely reproductive or sexual health. Even though it's 2012 I really feel that there are still a lot of assumed stigma's regarding the LGBT community that are rarely deconstructed or discussed.

So many people are so focused on marriage, but I think that looking at uninsured queer people, homeless queer youth (often homeless because of their queerness, like being kicked out of their homes), and as someone else said, sexual health of queer people, since many of us don't use protection due to not getting pregnant.

I wish it focused more on protecting and making safe places for queer and trans people of color rather than gay marriage ..

I'm right there with you. I think bathroom safety and hate crimes are a bigger issue than marriage. My list is hate crimes, bathroom safety, employment, and housing. Marriage just takes a back burner with me.

I agree completely. There are so many more important issues to worry about than just marriage equality.

Like others have said, LGBT sexual health, homelessness, creating safe spaces, hate crimes, queer people of color... all of those things would be good to focus on. Even just focusing on the huge discrepancy between LGB rights and trans* rights, and the discrimination against certain queer groups within the LGBT community itself would be good.
