Religious Freedom Restoration Act In the News In Indiana

What do you think if the RFRA that just passed in that State ? I was surprised to hear it already exists in other states.

Do you think it was mainly for Priests to be able to deny wedding gay couples? Or what was behind this ? I thought already by posting a "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone " sign was good enough.

And do the revisions just added change anything ?

Having never lived anywhere else, is the rest of the country that much different from California ?

Anyone have any thoughts on this ?

I'm also watching this development. Yesterday the governor of Indiana was back peddling and saying that he wanted to "fix" this. He should have "fixed" it by not signing it and letting it die.

I do like how major business' have voiced their discontent on the issue. Should major corporations pull out of the state or reduce their footprint within the state, that will send a clear message to leadership to remove and repeal this bullshit bill and replace it with actual equality. You know, the stuff that is mentioned in all of the founding documents for the nation.

It would be great for starters if the NCAA Championship was held in a different state this year in protest of this law. This would send a loud and clear message that potential discrimination should not be institutionalized.

Supposedly the additions that passed today, thwart the legality of business denying goods or services to LGBTQ people.

When I lived as a university student in Germany, I experienced legal discrimination in housing. That was back in pre-internet days so looking for an apartment was in the classified ads in a newspaper. I was shocked to see "No Blacks, No Foreigners, No Students" right there in ad after ad. When I complained to several German Student friends they responded, "It's the landlord's building, he can choose who he does not want to rent to" When I told them that was illegal in the USA, THEY were shocked.

Back to the issue at hand, one of my completely straight friends told me that he didn't see any problem with SB101. He said that IF he was gay he wouldn't want to patronise a business that didn't want his business for that reason. Now I cannot really fault that idea, however I would not want to find out at the last minute that I would be refused service at a restaurant or some other business because the proprietor or a staff member figured out that I am NOT straight.

Now IF the businesses that would have refused me were REQUIRED to post a sign stating that they would ONLY serve heterosexuals and only real Christians. LOL, I'd be amused by that.

Oh yeah, I'm not only a card-carrying member of the LGBT community, I'm a godless Atheist to boot!

Yeah, this was a crazy "welcome home" that we got, being that we live in THE crazy state. There's so much back peddling going on with this new law, even i, as a resident , don't fully understand it.

One minute gay/lesbians will be discriminated and the next there's a huge promise that it won't happen. For the sake of humanity, all that was fought for, lives lost for the sake of freedom and constitutional rights, I really hope we don't move backwards and revert to the ways of discrimination again. That would be sickening.

I have to agree, it sounds like a complete bullshit bill. I'm not sure what good it was even supposed to serve. I also read that Arkansas is voting on a similar bill tomorrow??

Now a little know pizza place is widely known. Looks they have haters and supporters though.

They must be bold. If I was in business, I wouldn't care about anything but the color of the money. Business is business.

I've never even heard of that little town lol. Its horribly sad that the owners chose to be so callus. This new law is going to cause nothing but problems.
