Should masturbation be added to highschool health/sex textbooks and be covereed in class at least superficially?

I think it should be mentioned as a form of safe sex. Going into details and techniques isn't needed, but mentioning it is better than nothing.

I think... that schools should do a bit more in Health class about sexual education in general. It's a required course in Highschool - not to mention in elementary schools at whichever is the last grade (5th or 6th) they offer (girls) the opportunity to go to a little meeting about puberty. And in my middle school they required us to attend a sexual health seminar which was pretty much just "ABSTAIN ABSTAIN or you're dick is going to swell and ooze puss!"

Not very educational.
In health class they talk about reproduction and again, the diseases one can procure from sex.

Kind of erm... subliminally preaching the whole "virgin till marriage" bull.

There is that whole class to use for proper contraceptive use, what to do if contraception fails (morning after pill), checking sexual health. How many girls/women were afraid to visit the Gyno because it seemed taboo or awkward to have someone looking at your vag? I know when I was a teen it freaked me the hell out to imagine it. Not only that, but so many young people fall into sex like they do alcohol because it makes them feel 'adult'. Half of them don't know how to have safe sex or are incredibly uncomfortable even talking about it.

Sex in general should be taught a different way in schools. If they have the time to preach to children about abstaining and how / what to eat and taking weight / height and sending out letters if you're obese - then they have the time to properly education young adults about sex.

Sex ed is a joke. It either shows too much and gets students too interested, or it just says "Look, STDs/STIs are bad." Parent should be the ones to teach, not schools. Takes care of so many issues.

I think teachers should be allowed to talk about it if a kid asks. When I was in my sex ed classes they would black out different parts of a video that the administration deemed "inappropriate" to talk about. So, when one of the kids asked what it was the teacher had to say that she wasn't allowed to say.

I don't think that helps anyone.

Well, it was part of my sex-ed class - covered it superficially, but still covered it. So I vote yes.

Absolutely. We're still very prudish and childish about sex as a society in the US. It's time to stop developing curricula in response to political/religious pressure, and instead develop curricula on the basis of what kids NEED TO KNOW, in health as in all other subjects.

Yes, many kids know something (or think they do) about masturbation, but there's a lot of bogus misinformation out there. A brief study would be beneficial.

Tell them it's normal, and not to be ashamed of their bodies. Absolutely.

They didn't cover masturbation in any of the 4 times I had sex ed or read about it. Many parents don't want their kids learning about it. I think they should tell us that it at least EXISTS. It saves a lot of awkwardness.

Almost everyone does it, so it should probably be mentioned at least briefly.
