Okay this is kind of like women who like to call themselves bitches in my opinion. Using the word does not make it a liberating thing in my opinion. If anyone every called my wife a slut except for me I am not sure who would swing at them first, her or me (guess it depends if it was a girl or guy) I am all in favor of fun sex, not just for procreation, but I think the things in their mantra are very different from the word slut.

There's a big difference between your wife calling herself a slut, proudly, and someone else calling her a slut as an insult.

The goal of the "slut movement" is to reclaim the word "slut," which means they want to change its definition. "Slut" is a word used to shame women who have sex; their argument is that we shouldn't even HAVE a word that can shame women for having sex.

I'm not sure if the slut movement will really take off, but I do like it. I've participated in a slut walk. It was a blast, and it was really empowering.

I have seen this. I totally get the reasoning behind it and it is an important movement. I would participate in the slut walk, but I don't have the time or the babysitter.

I'm all for people making their own choices in life. I'm certainly not perfect by any means. However, I don't believe in any words that insult people. Like the "N" word for a black person. However, me, as milky white as I am, don't feel it appropriate for other blacks to call themselves that either. I detest the "c" word (rhymes with bunt) too. If one person says it and it's insulting, then, no matter what, it should be common courtesy NOT to use the word.

Though I understand the reasoning, I don't think that it's a great idea......

I'm fairly involved in groups like Rock the Slut Vote. The idea is to throw away this outdated concept that sexuality in women is disgraceful. There is no difference in a woman enjoying sex and a man enjoying sex. Even worse the word slut has come to be used to degrade any woman willing to stand up for herself or who refuses to be meek and modest. I think it is absolutely a word we need to reclaim.

I wouldn't necessarily donate or join but I think their stance and argument is valid and I've called myself a slut before. I am in support of reclaiming words and refer to myself as queer despite the fact that it has been used against non-straight people in the past.
