Same-sex partners will not receive all the same benefits as heterosexual partners due to the Defense of Marriage Act.

It's a start, but it's hard to get super excited about it since there are still so many other inequalities. It's a step in the right direction - that's for SURE!

"Some benefits cannot, because of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, be extended to same-sex partners." Healthcare benefits are specifically forbidden by DOMA.
DOMA still needs to be overturned.

It is highly unlikely that you're going to get anything other than "yay!" from the EF community. Most of the people against gay rights are socially conservative, and probably also wouldn't be on a site that is so open about issues of sexuality and pleasure. :\

I agree with others on this issue...the fact that it has to be legislated is disgusting.

I...can't even vote, because yes, it's a small step in the right direction, BUT it still implies that my partner and I are "less equal". We are doing the domestic partner thing in CA for now, as an engagement of sorts, in hopes that the Supreme Court will make the right decision on Prop. 8 and DOMA soon.
