I would agree with this. Sexuality is a part of her. But I think we can say that's true for almost every musical artist. She brings out the fetish a bit though. I still consider her as a great many X icons before I consider her a sex icon though.
I really love Lady GaGa, just about everything about her. And I don't think she's a sex icon the way Pam Anderson was (as in sexy to look at and everyone wants her) but I think she qualifies in the way that she's inspiring and promotes openness and liberation. She's very vocal about being pro-GLBT and doesn't hide her history of bisexuality and is definitely a sexual feminist. Go you, GaGa!
Lady Gaga annoys me to no end. She's not that interesting to me at all and her "style" or lack thereof don't make her a sex symbol or status icon or any such thing in my mind. And driving my 5 year old daughter to school every morning a few years ago and hearing Gaga sing about disco sticks at 7am on my local station was not how i wished to ever start a morning. She's overrated in my book.
In the beginning I really like her, though she was so good for the industry. But she has turned into an overrated monster that does the weirdest crap just to get talked about. It's like she can not live with out being the center of attention and her latest song really sucks. I hope she slowly fades away.
I am ambivalent. She is way off my spectrum in terms of what I listen to, and I don't watch tv so I rarely run into her music or videos unless I go looking. On the other hand, I am TOTALLY disgusted by her insane following. Or any celeb's following for that matter. I get appreciation, but not obsession, especially when it is due in a large part to the media frenzy that follows their every move.

I went with hate but that's a little too strong. I don't find her attractive though and think the way she dresses and acts is too overtly over the top and a gimmick for attention, which works but does not appeal to me.
I can't stand her. She's an attention whore and talentless, IMO.
I first saw her perform on SNL, and after several minutes of hearing her mumble and groan, the three words (and nothing else) all in one note "my poker face" over and over and over and over ad infinitum, I turned off the TV and can't take her seriously.
Did she not SEE the movie This is Spinal Tap? This movie makes fun of the pretentiousness of so many celebrities and the fucking POD she arrived to the Grammies in was actually a replica of the pods the dudes in Spinal Tap used in the movie. (And the movie was intended to make you laugh at their silliness and pretensions.)
She's so enthralled with herself she can't see reality. And her music sucks, too.
Um, HOW is she a "sex icon?" She simply rehashes everything everyone from Mae West to Madonna has already done. She makes a fool of herself, and that isn't sexy. It's silly. I don't find anything she does, wears, says or sings in the least attractive.
There are so many TALENTED musicians who never get a chance and people like her suck up all the press with little or no real talent to show for it. So, she's GLBT friendly, that doesn't make her a good artist.
Her "career" is going to be jumping from one gimmick to an other, with no real art to show for her effort. It's sad, in a way.

Loved this: "Did she not SEE the movie This is Spinal Tap? AHHHH! I totally agree with your entire post. She just rubs me the wrong way, she is disgusting. If I wanted to see attention whores I will go on Myspace. Gag.
I loved her. I liked her music. I LOVED her fashion. Then "Born this way" came out. Its not the message, its the Madonna sound alike. I loved her style and edge but that video and song ruined it for me. I have a feeling she is on the decline...and I thought she was the next MJ.
In terms of Lady Gaga as an "artist", I'm pretty ambivalent. I didn't even know what she looked like until a month ago (and I'm not even kidding.) As for her music, though....not gonna lie, I pretty much love it. I know that apparently everyone's hating on "Born This Way", but it's been on repeat on my iPod for two weeks now (on my workout playlist...lol.)
And this is really weird for me, but with her my attitude is "Forget about the lyrics (which are sometimes pretty stupid), just dance!!" Usually I'm all about the meaning of the lyrics (which is why I can't stand Katy Perry.)
