What is your opinion of releasing a sex tape, without the consent of all parties involved?

Contributor: Gary Gary
Is that even legal? I always assumed that the 'accidentally leaked' sex tapes where really sold to companies, and that everyone in it had to consent, sign a contract, and get a paycheck. Maybe I am wrong here...

I was just reading about how Mindy McCready and her lawyer are trying to keep a sex tape from being released. I am not really sure who this lady is, nor am I a baseball fan, and Vivid tends to be a little too mainstream for taste, so why do I care? I guess I am more confused than anything. I have seen a few articles on this now, and it seems like this should be a fairly black and white issue.

... I am also confused about the concept of distributing a tape, that you may or may not be releasing.

I don't know anything about this... but it sounds like it sucks.
I wouldn't want anything to be released with out my consent.

I think that it's wrong. Like releasing an individual's pictures without their consent - it just should not be done, period.

I still believe that sex tapes don't accidentally get leaked. Sure, there may be jilted lovers and all that. But, all in all, some people can only get famous by releasing sex tapes...Paris Hilton for example.

There's a fool proof way of not having this happen to you: Don't do it. If you think there's a chance that someone could get a hold of the incriminating video/pix, just don't do it.

...or do it with a furry outfit on w/o any distinguishing features shown.

Yeah, you're right. The only way to not have it happen is to not do it. Or do it in the way that you suggested. HAHAHA!!

Couldn't have said it better. Also, even if they DID consent, they should be able to revoke that consent at any time. Once the tape is "leaked," there's nothing they can really do to stop copies from getting passed around, but until then? One "NO!" should stop the whole thing.

And Mr. Sauce, you're right. The only way to make sure it never happens to you is to make sure your face never shows up in one. This is why I have never taken any naked pictures for my boyfriend, or let him see anything on the webcam. It pisses him off, and he bugs me about it on a regular basis, but you know what? I feel safer knowing that even hackers can't get at naked shots of me.

I'll fight you for the Wookie head!

Luscious Lily: You know, it is interesting that you should mention being on webcam, because you're right - that's another way that things can happen.

I figure, if I know how to record from a webcam, other people do, too. And anything that gets sent over the internet is inherently at risk.

Oh, were you planning on making a solo video?

I think all parties should have to consent. There's got to be some trust involved there too.

True, not showing your face is probably the best option. Darn - where was that Wookie head when I needed it?

Wow! I always thought there had to be some form of consent. Preferrably written consent by both parties! I'm not a porn watcher though so that may be totally off. I really am surprised to see that they wouldn't do more like charge people who distribute tapes without consent. Whoa that would be devastating to have a tape leak online and not be willing. It would kind of in some way be like rape. In the way that it would strip a person from their privacy and humiliate them (if they weren't willingly inbolved in showing the tape publicly) Could surely do a lotta damage to a person and their lives!
