I give flowers and enjoy it and I've also received them and enjoy it (maybe a little less, kind of like Christmas as an adult).
The novelty of receiving them wore off when I worked as a cashier at a grocer as a teen. Creepy older dudes would buy the flowers THERE at the store and give them to my checkout lane. I mean, I was YOUNG.
Don't like flowers on first dates unless it is humourous (i.e., previously we discussed it was gross to get roses on the first couple dates, making it amusing if I still get them). Don't like random admirers giving me flowers.
I, however, have disobeyed my rule and given flowers to pretty boys and girls whenever the whim took me. I'm creepy as hell, but it works sometimes.
Oh, and I always bring a few roses and such to restaurants on Valentine's Day or other holidays. The people working really appreciate it.
I'm old-fashioned. I give and receive flowers as apologies.
I would like to say, however, if given the chance, I prefer more tangible (edible! sparkly!) gifts. I don't really like how I feel the need to be careful about chemicals, buy organic, buy ethically (it's another sad industry). Picking them is nice, though, and it's that time of year!!
Best gift ever: wine with a beautiful bottle and some flowers. Drink wine, then use bottle as a vase. I'm easily won over.
