Do you and your significant other sleep in different beds?

Contributor: snuggly snuggly
I'm wondering how common it is for people to sleep in different beds than their partner who they live with or are married to.

We've never sleep in different beds, but it's probably a good idea to do so in the future. My husband always roll allover our bed and takes up my space, drives me nuts!

We would never sleep in separate beds unless one of us was gravely injured and needed to not be shifted or moved about in the night. In my personal opinion, in regards to my personal relationship, it would be the end of our marraige if either one of us suggested it.

We always sleep in the same bed if we're in the same place. I can see where it can be very beneficial to some relationships, but for us it works better to sleep with each other most nights.

I wanted my own bed in my own room when I was married - my ex-husband snored like a moose in labor. He threatened to leave me if we didn't sleep in the same bed, and I (stupidly) kept him for almost ten years ... needless to say, after a celibate marriage, the thought of sharing a marriage bed again fills me with both despair and savage rage.

Yet one more thing to work through if I'm to have a healthy relationship.

We sometimes sleep separately because he snores like a train some nights. It gets so bad that he has woken me up from a sound sleep before and I can't get back to sleep when he's like that. Most of the time if he starts to snore he'll just go sleep on the couch, other times I do it. It only happens maybe once or twice a week now but I have started going to bed before him so that I don't have to try and sleep through his noise.

If one of us has a cold/flu and starts coughing/sneezing/whee zing, we will sleep in separate beds. It's miserable enough that one person has those symptoms, I try not to make that two people

We don't live together, but if we did we would always be in the same bed. We're pretty inseparable.

I'm a cold sleeper, she's a warm sleeper, and I snore just a bit. Or a lot, depending on who you ask. So we usually sleep apart, and we both sleep better for it.

The only time we sleep separately is if we're staying somewhere and the bed is too small. I -have- to stretch out in crazy positions or I don't sleep well, whereas he can sleep peacefully any old place. So, in those cases, I usually get the bed and get gets the floor or couch.

We always sleep together, unless someone is sick or really angry.

Actually, my parents have slept apart since they got back together sixteen years ago. Their schedules and their sleeping habits are so different that it's impossible for either to get any sleep if they had to share a bed. My mother is up and down all night and has the television on, and my father prefers to sleep through the night in peace while he snores loudly.

They love each other better for it. They don't have fantasies of murdering each other or have resentments because of having to share a bed and not getting any sleep.

Right now we never sleep in different beds, but when we move we will have seperate bedrooms. We will usually sleep in the same bedroom. But I think its good to have some space and a few good nights of sleep.

I don't live with my partner, but I voted for the future. I'd like to have a separate bed that I could sleep in if I want to. I think I'd like to sleep together most of the time, but I always want the option to sleep alone. Sometimes, I just really need my space, and I think not being able to have that would cause more issues than sleeping separate would.

I totally agree. We each have our own bedroom. Yes, we end up sleeping in the same bed (usually in my room) on occasion, but it is great to have our own space if we want it.

80% of the time we sleep in the same bed, but 95% of the time we sleep in the same room, next to each other. He prefers a harder surface and will sometimes sleep on a bed on the floor. I think he's crazy for thinking that is good for his back, but whatever! The other 5% is if one of us falls asleep on the couch during a movie or we are not in the same place.

We always sleep in the same bed. And, if it's not in bed, I'll usually just fall asleep on him. He's like a giant, warm teddy bear to take a snooze on.

I've only been able to sleep with my significant other a few times because of distance. I think if we ever live together, we would sleep together every night.

We always sleep in the same bed too. He always has to be touching me because I'm always cold and he is always burning up it seems.

I'm not currently living with my partner, but in two previous relationships I maintained a separate bedroom and almost always slept apart. This isn't due to anything other than the fact that I'm constantly freezing and need a higher temperature to sleep. It was rather nice when my ex's snores were separated by two doors, though

Nah, we need to sleep together. It's another opportunity to reconnect after spendign the day apart. Plus, it's comforting.

If we're in the same house we sleep together. Don't always get the best sleep this way. Would be better if my bed was bigger than a twin.
