Have you ever given/received a ring to/from your partner that wasnt associated with getting married?

Im curious if people still give rings w/o wanting to get married. Im kind of on the fence about marriage but still think my bf could give me a beautiful ring for our 2 year anniversay.

Heck, a ring would probably be one of the easiest "collars" to hide for my guy and I (especially one with an engravable inside). I have a friend who has gotten a ring from her boyfriend as just a present, and they never thought about it otherwise. It may be awkward if the ring has a diamond I guess... But meh. Jewelry is jewelry, hopefully you both feel that a ring should be an engagement ring when the time is right, and any other time a ring is just a nice piece of jewelry.

I've given my man a ring before and we are not married nor do we intend to be married. I just thought he would like it so I bought it for him.

My fiance has given me a ring every year since we were in high school... so about 6 years so far I've gotten a ring. All of them except one had diamonds. I think rings are always appropriate, but I've never asked for one. He just gets them for me.

Back in highschool I had a boyfriend give me a ring on an anniversary. He did fake propose but we both knew that it wasn't a real engagement or anything. In fact, we broke up a couple months later, hah.

Heck tell him that! Just be absolutely sure he isn't actually wanting to ask you to marry him on that anniversary and that he knows you aren't actually hinting that you'd welcome a proposal. Unfortunately there are women out there who will play games like this and it's given the more honest women a bad reputation.

You could drop into a jewelry store with him and show him some of the types of jewelry you enjoy wearing and assure him that you would LOVE to show off a beautiful gift from him.

I've gotten rings in the past that weren't a symbol of marriage or proposal or anything like that, and I've given rings as well. The rings I got were Christmas or birthday gifts.

In my opinion, presents of any kind should not be asked by the receipient. The whole point of gifts in my opinion is to show how much thought the giver has put into the gift.

If my girl asked me for a ring, it would totally turn me off.

Ive never asked for a ring... I have jewelry that I have bought for myself and am happy with doing that. I was just curious if a ring always had to be associated w/marriage or not.

Yes. I wear a white gold band on my left ring finger. I asked him for it, to keep men from hitting on me while I was working.
