My husband has no problem having sex with me when I'm on my period and neither of us has any problem having sex with our other partners when their on theirs (we're poly...in case that wasn't evident).

Although I'm not a big fan of it, I'm alright if I've JUST showered, and if we get back into the shower afterward. I really don't like the messy aspect, but I can understand that, because the female body releases extra hormones/pheromones during menses, males are more likely to become aroused in the (menstruating) woman's presence.
