Fractions in Descriptive Reviews?

Contributor: Petite Valentine Petite Valentine
Is there a reason that fractions are changed from ¼, ½ or ¾ to 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4? To me, it's clearer when a review says:

this is 7½" long

v.

this is 7 1/2" long

but I noticed the fractions were changed to the latter style in my review for the White Nights vibe.

Not sure if it helps but if I use Open Office to write my review if gives the larger fraction, but if I use Microsoft office Word it changes it to the smaller.

I am fine either way but the smaller looks better to me.

It depends on the software you are using. I don't think there is a change. Some of my reviews have it the first way. I also have it the second way you mention. I don't think it really matters since it still means the same thing.

I think what she's saying is that she used the small version and it was edited to the large version in her DR. Am I right?

I like the small version, but Pages doesn't convert for me when I type there. I'm not sure why it would be edited to the larger version. I think the smaller looks better.

Correct. I put them in directly using alt-codes, and the three in my post above are part of the standard / default display group.

If they're not allowed in DRs, I wish someone would tell me as I would much rather replace "7½" with "7.5" — that looks better than "7 1/2" in my opinion.

I always use .5's because often the other ones don't turn up on certain browsers and such. It's safer in my opinion, but I'm interested in seeing the answer.

I believe Sammi edits the DRs so you may want to contact her directly.

I think it looks better like that too. I think the fractions look sloppy. I always use 0.5.

Sometimes when they post if you're using the small fraction, they end up posting as a black diamond with a question mark inside, which is why they're changed. It also makes it more consistent with other fractions that may be used (like 1/8 or 7/8). If you think it looks better, making them the decimal format is fine

Me too.
To me, .5 is more foolproof.

I always use decimals. I think they look better and are easier to figure out.

They've displayed correctly in my regular reviews, but I can understand why you want reviewers to avoid them in DRs. I'll use decimals going forward, but I can't edit the ones I've submitted. One is still unpublished, would it be ok to PM you about it?

Interesting topic. I have wondered this too. It makes sense now for the DR reviews, but I did prior to this topic prefer the smaller one, I always got them straight from MS Word and now I know that decimal is best
