Handles to Comment

Sleeping Dreamer Sleeping Dreamer
After having a small discussion on a reviewer's review about an odd comment he supposedly wrote we came to the conclusion that someone actually used his name to write it. (link)

I don't like how someone could go right in and use your name to comment. For reviewers with their specific names they should be required to sign in to use their own handle. I don't know if there's a way to be able to still let customers write comments without having to sign in to accounts but I also don't know how I feel about someone being able to use my name and go around and comment on reviews without my permission. I have thought about that before, but I hadn't seen it happen to any one yet, but now it has. I too would like to see a way that we could lock up our handle on the site so that we would have to be signed in to use it and it would not let some one else use it. Reply

A new validation rules will disallow a user to use the screen names of any contributors except unique own name or screen name. A label "Verified" will be added to the names for all contributors who have completed their public profiles. Reply

Is there necessarily a reason to have that a field you can change? Reply

I thought that we verified comments now. I just realized that I left a comment under my name without being logged in. That doesn't sound like it verified user ID's. I'm confused. Reply

I actually did the same thing yesterday and was slightly concerned, thought I was the only one. Reply

1. if you are NOT logged in
- You may use any comment name as long as it does not match the screen name of another contributor.

2. If you are logged in and do not have completed profile
- You may use any comment name as long as it does not match the screen name of another contributor.

3. If you are logged in and have completed profile
- You screen name will be posted along with comment if you have profile
- You may not change the comment name
- Label "verified" will appear along with your screen name Reply

So what about "not logged in" and Using your own name? (regardless of completed profile.

What's a completed profile anyway? Reply

You will not be able to use own name when you are not logged in, once this feature released.
If you are not logged in we have no way to confirm your identity and reserve your right to use own screen name.

Basically it works similar way as it works in discussions, you have to login first before leave a comment.

Under "Completed profile" I mean Public Profile with your screen name, which you fill out when you activate the discussion or review service. Reply
