Any Advice for A First-Time Reviewer?

Contributor: Experiment Experiment
I've gotten myself an amazing mentor and am just waiting to get assigned a toy right now. I'm just wondering if anyone out there on the EF forums has any helpful tips or tricks that would help me write my first review.

Is there a general outline you always follow, a writing trick that helps the words get flowing, a mistake you commonly see in new reviewers writing that I could avoid...?

Any insights you have would be greatly appreciate!

The outline that Beck linked helped a lot. Also, when you think you included everything, re read it and add more detail!

Listen to your mentor and try to include most suggestions they provide. Don't feel insulted when your mentor writes so much to you at first. We all start new here and need help with our reviews (I needed a lot of help when I started). I'm sure your mentor will tell you most of this but when you get your product examine it first. Does it have a smell? seems? How flexible is it? Does it have any drag when applied to the skin? Next, try out the toy before you actually use it (i.e. insert the batteries and run it in your hands). Always have your review cap on. I'm constantly thinking about what to write even during use. Don't get discouraged! Lastly, don't hesitate to take the mentor program more than once. It's great to learn from different mentors. I had three who all taught me something different. Hope that helps!

That's an excellent article! I had it bookmarked awhile ago, but I lost the link to it. So glad to find the link again.

Put in pictures and a lot more information than you think you'll need. Haha. Use the extended review if you can.

Some advice was given to me by Sam back when I started, it has served me well and it is only right to pass it along.

Write the review like you are having coffee with your best friend and telling them about sex toys. In your mind think that they have never used one before. This does two things; 1) It lets your 'voice' come through the text and adds not only your personality but a smoothness when reading as well. 2) This insures that you include all the information that should be given. You certainly want your best friend to make an informed buying decision, right?

Above all else, have fun! Writing the review should not feel like a job but rather a wonderful way of sharing your experience and knowledge.

I love all the advice!

I'm going to start sending Kira's blog article to my students when they start with me! Thanks Beck and Kira!

Yes, don't be insulted if I write too much in the comments section. I tend to be full of words and I try and give more ideas than you may actually need sometimes (so you can pick, I guess).

It's all a learning experience. Honestly, as long as you try, you'll improve, and that's what it's all about. That and having fun! We are reviewing sex toys after all!

And thank you! I know you'll be a great student!
