If it bothers you enough you can email Gary and he can help you fix it

I see your argument.

That's an interesting idea, but with everything, it also has a potential for abuse and would still need a staff member to approve the deletion.

LMAO I hate the type of reviews you referenced.

Just to add into the pot. I am very new and I rely on reviews to help me make up my mind. I am looking at a 220.00 purchase so yeah 30% off would be great but not great if the product is not worth it. I found only three reviews and only one was really useful and well written. This is not the first item I had read all the reviews and still had no answers to my questions. So I agree with the after a year it would be nice if the reviews were reviewed. I agree with what others have said that if it was my review that was deleted I would be offended but really if I only wrote five sentences that began and ended with it was great, that is not a good review. Something else that might work is to contact that member if they are still active and ask them to do another review. This way you would get a more seasoned reviewer re doing their review. Just some thoughts and ideas from someone who is still working hard to make their reviews beneficial to others.

Having them hidden but viewable if clicked, like rated-down comments on youtube, would be my preference.

Thanks, Lauren. I was wondering what a review that is considered "not useful at all".

Since I've been "back", I have also noticed some reviews really lacking in quality. It would be nice if these could be reviewed and removed (where appropriate). As far as resubmitting or editing old reviews that could use some tweaking to make them better (I know a few of mine could use it!) I would also be interested in removing some of the back-and-forth questions and answers in the comments field, just because to me it would look cleaner to not have all of that in the comments. I completely agree with whoever said that the comments should not be part of the review. Looking back at some of my past reviews, I know that I have been guilty of leaving things out and having to then answer questions in the comments. To me this is frustrating when you're reading a review and half the info is in the comments instead of the actual review. I'm very curios if that would even be a possibility if a review is edited?

Sounds like a good idea to me, but for a check and balance system, could they be reviewed by the staff and voted on? That might reduce spite voting for those who are childish enough to do that.

my current assignment is for a toy with only one review on it, I just wrote why I thought I should be allowed to do another one and it was approved. If you explain the situation Gary and the powers that be usually work with you.

Totally for getting rid of reviews that are not useful. If it is taking up a space for a useful review then it should be removed. I for one would like to have a decent and useful review to read when deciding on a product I want to buy and I certainly wouldn't want to be prevented from getting an assignment due to the fact that a useless review is on that product.

This has crossed my mind before! I think that's a purrfect idea. I mean it wouldn't affect the person's rating, but it does affect other's who are willing to give their all in a review. So it makes perfect sense. I had been wanting a certain toy for months now and decided to request for my next review this past month and I found that there were 3 reviews, but all were so very limited and not rated well. It really could have had a complete and detailed review, but there were already 3 that were'nt rated useful. I think it's a really fair and promising way to go. It'd also be good for toys like the one I mentioned that get reviewed only a small amount of times and have no info included. I think it could make a really big difference too.

I agree that getting rid of the completely unuseful ones would be beneficial, I'm unsure about an automatic deletion. There are a lot of factors that could cause a bad or poorly rated review and I don't think a computer should be able to judge that. I do think it would clean up the site a lot though to go through and get rid of bad reviews from people who are no longer around, and would provide active members with the opportunity to write a good review on a product when they may not have otherwise had the chance.

Editors need to take a little responsibility too and contact reviews if they think it is not useful for EF or the community, but I think if a review gets 2 or more bad reviews (not useful at all) without any high reviews, then it should be deleted after 6 months. We have SO MANY reviews right now we really don't need to clog up the site with sub-par reviews.

Why don't the archive the old reviews or have an option to show current reviews first? the reason is some products do have design changes over time. I agree if a review is complete junk it probably shouldn't be on here but there are other things to factor in. Like how many reviews the person has don. If it's their first review and it's not very good let it stay or have the editor work with the person. I know my first review wasn't great but at the same time it was my first review on here.

I don't think it would be fair to just automatically delete them, but if that's the consensus after a year, it would make sense to have them flagged for review by eden staff.

I can understand your reasoning, especially about prevent other people from getting them as an assignment.

I don't think it's fully fair to do. What some see as not being useful others do. I think instead if an administrator sees something like this they should be able to have sort of an over ride mechanism to allow another reviewer to step in and write another review.

I only vote down if I read a review and am like, "umm...this didn't help me at all." Which does happen sometimes. I've read some reviews where it's basically the reviewer gushing about the product...without going into specifics and telling me what he or she liked about it and why he or she thinks I should get it. That's not helpful to me at all. I'm glad you liked it, really, but give me something I can use to justify the purchase.

ummm I wouldn't have the review deleted out of respect for that fact that some one took the time out to write one. They may not have the communication skills needed to impress people or to get the information across but they tried. Besides there are so many differnt people out there that the review might of been helpful to some who just did not open an account to vote.

I have no problem with the item going back into the review pool but in that case it should be handed off to some one that will make a useful review. Which brings it down to time and money. Does EF have the time to put on this project? Would this improve their sales? What are the pros and cons? How do they find all of these reviews etc.

English may not of been their first langauge in the frog case. Their review does make a few points. It works, easy to hide, not noticable and is easy to clean. Most importantly they enjoy it and use it often. It's not a useful review for deciding to buy the product but it is useful knowing that it works and some one loves it.

That sounds like a great idea. It clutters up the site to have those reviews around, plus if a first timer stumbles upon this one it could turn the off Eden! A year seems fair as well. If there were some way to notify us if we voted on a review and it had been edited, so we could re-assess our opinion! Great ideas!

As long as it wouldn't count as a double strike against the contributor when it was removed, I would be all for it.

Pretty rude to post someone's review as an example of one you think should be deleted. Just because you think they're no longer on Eden doesn't mean they aren't. They just posted a new review, actually.

She said she was only posting because she didn't believe the person was active here any longer and she certainly couldn't anticipate that 2 years after that review was written the reviewer would be active again. She didn't do it with malice, in my opinion.

I checked yes to delete old reviews that aren't useful, but read through the thread and somewhere along the way changed my mind. It's a great idea in theory though!
