Do you answer/reply to comments made on your reviews?

Contributor: Woman China Woman China
I think the title kind of says it all.

For me, I never go back and say "thanks for your comments" or anything like that, I don't know exactly why I don't, I just don't really see the need for it. And I stopped making comments a while ago when reading a review unless the review really floored me, made me laugh/chuckle or I have a questions.

This morning, I had some free time, so I decided to go back and look at some of the reviews I commented on. These reviews were ones that I asked the reviewer questions. I was surprised in that I still didn't get a reply from the reviewers. I know for me, if there is a question a member posts on a review of mine, I will answer it in the comment section, and then post it on their wall as well.

There are two reasons why I have always done this; 1) because when I first started looking at EF rankings when I joined, it said something along the lines of answering questions on reviews and 2) because I think it is respectful and polite.

So do you? Do you answer questions that members ask on your review? Do you post a thank-you to people who comment? Why/Why not?

I try to answer the questions form people on my reviews--but do get sidetracked occasionally, part of the ADD...however, thanking people is not something I have thought about doing. For one it would take all my allotted time for the site and reviewing, mentoring, etc. and secondly, it is on my part assumed that many of the comments are for the points gained--example, Thanks, emoticon, Good Review, ..........

I do (both answer and thank - I've done this since I joined), although I'm kind of behind - sometimes I don't get the notifications and then they all come through in a rush, and it takes me a while to catch up.

I haven't written that many reviews. So far, I've responded to each and every question. I have said thanks a couple of times, when someone's comment was especially flattering.

I normally do.

I'd say I generally do. I don't know what is up with my email settings, they bounce around and even though I have it set to notify me of new comments, most of the time I don't get an email notification. I've had to verify my email over five times. But I do go back occasionally and look at my reviews to see anything new.

Most of the comments to my reviews do not require a response - but if a question is asked - yes I will respond to best of my ability.

If there were alerts to let someone know their review comment had been responded to, then maybe I'd respond more.

I do, not after every comment, but I pop in and out. I try to keep up on my latest reviews since those tend to be the ones I get asked questions on. Usually though, someone will message me or write on my wall if they have a question.

I used to go back and check every single comment left on my reviews just in case someone had questions, or had a kind comment that deserved a thank-you or something like that, but it became impossible to keep checking because of getting the loads of comments that are only left for points. The "TY" or "thanks," or a damn emoticon because people seriously can't do better than that and only want those points, but don't have the time it takes to read all the reviews in order to EARN those points. I got fed up with it slowly, but surely & it was wasting a lot of my time, so I got to the point to where for a long time now, when I write reviews, I'll spend a lot of time (often days) going back over to be sure there isn't anything else left that I could possbily include -- this way someone doesn't have to be stuck in limbo after asking a question in the commments section.

Thing is, it sucks because I'd love to give a decent reply to everybody who leaves a thoughtful comment, and I try to, but I simply do not have the time to even think about checking the comments usually. I also would prefer if someone had a question, they inbox me and say go look at your review, I left a comment or leave that on my wall or hell, just send the question in a message if they wanted. I hate that it's like that, but that's the best way to get an answer.

I wish there was a way to sort out the useless, just-commented-for-my- point- comments & the ones that actually deserve reading. I think even if we got emails for each comment -- that way we could look and see quickly in the body of the email what the comment is that each person leaves, that would be a lot easier. I just can't come back to my review 100 times a week to see one thought out comment and 99 "TY" or smiley faces.

This is exactly why I do not leave useless comments. If I have nothing more than "TY" or a smiley face to leave, I won't leave anything at all. You know, they have a wall, which is where you would more appropriately leave smiley faces -- but then you wouldn't get your point, so it doesn't matter to anybody anyways. I don't expect or wait for replies or anything. I usually am commenting because I want to express the feelings/thoughts I had on their review, if I had any that feel worth sharing to them. I mean, if someone did a good job, I am absolutely going to tell them & tell them what I liked, etc. I like to encourage & give praise, and sometimes, I do have questions, but if they're questions I really, really need answered & questions that someone else here cannot answer, then I'll just inbox the reviewer as well.

Now if anybody takes the time to inbox me, I always reply. However, I have had this "2 new messages" in my inbox for months and months, but never can find the new messages! Even after clearing each one by reading everything I could, can't find them. But I won't just leave somebody hanging if they have a question and took the time to message me.

When I first started reviewing as I do now I always check the responses but then I've only done 13 reviews. There was a question on one I did early on and I did respond but in a direct message just to the person asking the question. At the time, because I was still new to reviewing I didn't understand how the answer might have helped others with the same questions. Today if I saw one on a review, yes I would comment on it.

Having written reviews and knowing what goes into them I understand well what it is to read one, especially when full of specific detail. Lately I have thought it appropriate to thank others for their time in appreciating the effort I made writing it and their thoughtful comments.

I check all comments to see if anyone had a question. If they do, I try to answer it the best I can. I don't thank everyone after ever comment is made, but after a few, I will say a 'thank you' to everyone that has commented. I appreciate the comments and want the readers to know that I'm checking back and appreciate it.

I normally thank them since if they commented it means that they took time out of their day to read my review and comment. I answer all questions too.

I do sometimes. I generally don't reply to individual comments unless the person is asking a question or saying something that I really want to respond to.

I try to respond personally as much as possible, at least at first. Then I'll thank a number of people at a time for reading my review--I'm genuinely appreciative of everyone who uses a few minutes of their valuable time to read what I've written! And now that I've figured out that my email notifications had been going into the spam folder, I can actually check and make sure to answer any questions.

I will answer questions if asked, but I do not thank every person for reading it. I actually think its super annoying when every other comment is "Thanks for reading". Makes way too many comments on a review.

At some point, it became a social faux pas to actually make comments or questions on reviews. anything other than "thank you," and reviewers started getting pissed. I always thought that was the point of comments.

Coupled with the fact that people get points for reviews, and all the "thank yous" and other spam-like comments almost make it seem wrong to add a legit comment.

I have problems with Eden email, too, so I never get notifications. Every so often I go back and look for new comments on my more recent reviews. I really want to answer any questions, but it's almost not worth the effort to see if there are some.

If a review has a specific question that is only relevant to them, I'll answer it on their wall. If it's a general question about the product, I'll answer it in the comments.

Same answer here. I sometimes reply more often but it's generally after about every 3 or so comments

I still have few enough reviews that it's possible for me to keep up with all of them. When my reviews are new, I make a point to check in at least once a day - and almost always post something so that it's clear that I'm still there and answering questions if it's possible. Once they're a bit older, that tends to slow down, but I still like to look in every now and again. When I come across reviews and don't see any comments at all from the reviewer, I generally wouldn't bother to ask a question even if I had one. Even if I'm just thanking a couple of people for reading my review, I want people to know that I'm there and available if there are any questions that I can answer.

Yes, I answer questions. I usually only leave a thank you or similar response for an amount of comments, not each one though.

I try to answer questions but I sometimes don't get the notices in the email that a comment has been sent. So, I generally check newer reviews often for comments.
