Given that even the most experienced reviewer can miss grammar/spelling/fact checks do you think that everyone should have an editor or mentor check their work?

...and to catch those bizzare spell check "corrections".

I think anyone can miss an error, but I know that now that I'm self-editing I am very careful going through the grammar and such. I don't think it's necessary for everyone, but sometimes it can be. It depends on the individual and how many mistakes they make through various reviews. It's a tricky slope to navigate.

The mentors and editors are also just volunteers/members of the site. I've found many errors in reviews that were edited or checked by a mentor. So I don't think having ALL reviews edited would do that much to improve ... more
Hear Hear! The editors are volunteers and they do a pretty thankless job for the most part. No one likes to be corrected and more than one an editor has gotten a raw deal after trying to help. Sometimes mistakes make us look human and approachable. Too much time is being spent critiquing each other when the real reason we are writing the reviews is for the paying public not other reviewers.

I think it would help maybe, and I would support it, but there are probably going to be mistakes no matter what. And I don't think they have to be perfect. But if a review is edited and I can vote on how well they did I'll vote according to the number of mistakes like it says to. I'm not a perfect writer, but if I was going to post a review I would try and make sure that it's as good as I can get it.

I am not an native english speaker, so not only am I prone to do such errors but even I find grammar/spelling errors in some reviews. I guess that it's always good to double check...

I think everyone should have theirs edited.

Every public school teacher who said spelling doesn't count should be fired. I confess that misusing rather common words causes me to question one's competency in all areas. I understand that I'm overly pedantic when it comes to spelling and word usage. However, given those statements everyone can and does make mistakes, even me, so an editor would helpful.

No, I don't think I need anyone checking my work. Honestly, I've seen some bad editing. Whether it's because they too have missed the faults, or just don't care, I do not know. But, I think I can do my own editing, as I usually look over everything after I've written it to make sure I haven't messed up on anything. I notice sometimes that I do miss it the second over, but if I can, I go back in and correct my mishaps.

I am sure we have enough contributors to review every review in a timely manner, and everyone makes mistakes.

I am glad that there are editors, and I would love for every review I do to be looked over. I make a lot of errors in my haste and it is helpful.
