How Many Times Should You Use A Toy Before Writing Your Review?

Contributor: Lilith Bealove Lilith Bealove
I have quiet a few toys I need to write reviews on, but don't think I have used them enough. How many times do YOU use a toy before writing a review? After you vote, please comment with why you have to use it x # of times.
Thanks a bunch.

I don't have to use it, I can just play with it a little and write

For my general rule of thumb, usually about a month of use. I use the new toy with various other products to see if there is something that works best with it, then I compare it to another toy I have that is similar in shape, then similar in purpose... And if it is a toy I really don't like too much, I still continue to use it hoping that I might change my mind.

All the while, in my head I have notes being formed on the item.

I just read the reviews. I don't write them, but sometimes as a reader I can tell the product has only been used a few times. While first impressions are important and can be included, I want a more well rounded viewpoint! I think the reviewed product should be used many many times before publishing your review!

It's hard to say. If it's a review assignment, you won't have time to use it too many times.

Depends on the item. If I can use it once and know I won't be using it again, as well as why, only once. Usually I'm 3-4, but sometimes I'll use something more than 5-6 times.

It really depends, as some W/we just check out for a few moments (like cuffs or crops, whatever similar) to check the features out what are mentioned in the reviews (the rest of the ideas just come for other uses) - vibes for example are entirely different, especially because of the various uses in some cases, so I mostly have minimum two tests "in practice", one is usually just to enjoy it for the first time, see how it is, second or third time is mostly what I use for reviewing, focusing on all the qualities and memorizing them all so I won't leave anything out...

So it really depends, and of course a growing amount of O/our T/toys I still haven't reviewed yet, and I have no idea if I will ever be able to catch up with myself and write one on them too... ^^

It depends. Some require a lot of uses, while there are some that are so completely bad once is enough.

A lot of toys get several different sessions but as Sammi said sometimes if it's so terrible, I may give it one more shot but a lot of times I just get my opinion and go.

I think 2-4 or so gives a good idea of it unless there are unusual circumstances. Definitely at least twice for me.

I use follow-up reviews for a longer-timeline perspective.

It varies, never less than three times though.

A minimum of three or four times. Often more. I have reviewed products I've had for years.

The first use of a toy, you are learning how to use it and are not getting the full spectrum of enjoyment from it, as you're learning the buttons and speeds and patterns (if it's a toy) or if it's a cosmetic item, it may take more than one use to see if it really softens or if you are sensitive to it. I like to use lube a number of times, in several different ways, toys, anal, sometimes PIV, digital play to see how it performs, if it washes away nicely, if it's sticky, if it moisturizes, if it irritates me etc. You would not be able to do all that in one use. Some irritations only show up after several uses or several days of use.

It really depends on the product! I have written a few reviews after a coup;e of uses, but most of the time, the toy I have for review becomes my "new best friend" until I feel I have used it enough to thoroughly test everything, including battery life!

I voted for anywhere from 2-6+ times. Once is really not enough to get a solid idea of the toy. I like to use an item as many times as possible before reviewing it, that makes for a much better review.

It depends on the item. I go by hours of use vs. times used. I would suggest at least 4-6 hours of use minimum and preferably 8+ hours. It depends on the item, also. Some are similar enough to other items that you just already know the product after an hour or two.

I agree it depends on the item. If it is a total bust the first time and the cost was low and you want to throw it in the trash, I don't see why you would want to try it again. Otherwise, I shoot for the 2-4 range before writing a review.

I try and think of all the possible ways one might use the toy and try and use it like that. It gives me a more well-rounded review

I thought of that, but there's a few things I will not do with a toy, or can't do.

Once if the experience was horrible. 2-4 times if the first experience was worthy of repeating.

I think at least a couple of times is ideal.

Usually I can tell really quick after even just playing with it in my hands how much I will like it. But I will try it atleast once.

2-4 times for me depending on what type of toy. For a vibrator that has a lot of different features, the first time is spent familiarizing myself with the functions. For something like a dildo I think you can tell by the first use if you'll like it or not.

I think it depends on each different item.
