I guess I like the ones that take up the entire width the best, but they all add quite a bit to the reviews!

Horizontal pictures are best IMHO unless you're doing the review on your blog and have control over the HTML. Then vertical pictures alongside the text can be better. The resolution and quality of the picture is still the most important - it's better to give a smaller, but sharper photo than post a blurry pic (unless you're going for artistic not descriptive).

This. When the text can't fill the missing space on a picture line, I like horizontal best, especially the ones that take up the entire width of the page. Still, though, resolution is everything.

I want to see the toy in the pictures but the bigger ones swamp out the review and take over too much

I don't really care what size the image is, as long as it's not too big to fit on my screen. I absolutely hate having to scroll down to see the rest of a picture.

That's a great question. I struggle with this sometimes. Especially as everyone's viewing the site at different screen sizes and resolutions.

I am working on inserting pictures in my review for the first time. to do so, you do ]img|image link] (with the ] going the right way)
is this right? and how do you control the size then?

375x500. Good resolution and good enough size to see what you are looking at with detail.

I figured out how to post pictures, but they're huge. Where/how do you change the size?

You need to change the size on your computer before uploading them.

I like to see some pictures within a review - not a little review within a photo albumn!
Some images aren't clear at all and the larger they are, the worse. I want to see some details within the photo, but I don't want it to take over the whole review.

I tend to like the typical 480x640 of most forums.

It doesn't matter to me the size as long as I'm able to see it. Different items are different sizes so they'd have to be adjusted accordingly.

I try to double up images side by side when it's appropriate. Max width 600px seems to work. And I wouldn't go deeper than 400px. Usually try to keep that around 300px. People's monitors differ so much and 500px high images can take up a lot of real estate.
