Poll 01: How would you feel about a deaf person (unable to rate bees) reviewing a vibrator on Eden?

Surprised this is even a question. seems so exclusionary.

I don't see any problem with it. If they can explain why they didn't rate it or if they have someone else rate it, there isn't a problem. As long as they are honest, I'm fine with it!

It is fine as long as they explain they could not review that aspect of the toy.

i think putting "n/a" in the rating part so that it doesn't change the scale, and just a one liner "i can't tell you how loud or quiet it is because i am deaf"

every other part of the review is still very relevant information. and for me, i don't particularly care how loud or quiet a toy is - make a blanket tent with your knees and it really dampens the sound a lot anyways(i only notice because i am always cold so always covered in a blanket lol)

I know it's complicated to do, but said person COULD use a program like audacity to record the buzzing of said toy and then look at the corresponding wave file.

I know it wouldn't make a big point to anyone else, but I personally would FLIP to see someone nerdy enough to go that far to try to include details that they personally couldn't say anything about.

If there are any deaf people on the site that would be interested in learning how to do this.. I would love to show you how!!! :-D

I'm a serious techy and if I can help show someone a somewhat pointless trick like this for them to get a visual representation of what the audio is like of a toy I think I would be ecstatic to do so!

Disclaimer: I am perfectly fine with deaf people reviewing a toy and not including anything about the buzz level of a toy. The only people that irritate me personally when reviewing a toy is when I see a woman with man's toy and the review is something along the lines of "I think this would feel wonderful for a man. It looks realistic, it feels real when I touch it, but I don't have a penis so I can't say."

I'm not against a woman getting her man's thoughts, but the women that take a men's toy and just touch it and look at it... That's a load of hooey.

I always take bee ratings with a grain of salt in general. The ranking seems to differ a lot from person to person depending on their threshold for noise.

This does make me wish that it wasn't a required field for this reason, because I don't feel like we should expect our hearing impaired friends to talk about it in every review they write!

I think it is fine if they either write in the review that they could not review that aspect. Also, if their partner rated the noise level, that would be fine as long as they shared that it was the rating of their partner.

I have no issue with it. It would be helpful to know why they didn't include it. They could say how other quiet/loud reviewers found it also.

Really though if the rest of the review is interesting and helpful, I really could care less ... more
Agreed, I never just read one review anyways. As long as they put in that they were deaf and couldn't accurately rate that part of the product, I'd be happy.

Ok, here is my question how would you feel about a deaf person reviewing vibrators on Eden. While this may seem like a silly question, I ask because a required portion of every review is how loud the toy is (bees). Since a deaf person couldn’t review ... more
Doesn't matter to me, so long as they don't make up a rating for the bee level or something like that.

My sister is deaf. It happens. Just be honest about being unable to rate the bees.

Obviously, it doesn't make sense to ban d/Deaf people from reviewing vibrators. The question then becomes, why is rating the loudness of a toy required of each reviewer when some may be d/Deaf, hard-of-hearing, or have an auditory processing disorder making it difficult to gauge that information? Good question, namelesschaos!

I feel like bees are a really subjective rating as well - I mean, not everyone perceives things in the same way, so it's impossible for them to be objective. I think that it would be nice if a non-hearing person were able to ask a friend, partner or any hearing person if they could evaluate the noise level, but I don't think that it's necessary to include in the review as long as they explained why they were choosing "N/A" so that it didn't give the impression that there was no sound at all.

I have a deaf daughter, she can't hear below 55DB which is louder than normal speech, and when she's much, much much older (and I don't know about it) there wouldn't be any reason she couldn't do a review. Most deaf people have some sort of hearing aid or implant that they wear almost all of the time and if they didn't they would understand about the vibrations translating to noise.

Thanks for the post. I was surprised at how long it took to get a comment from someone with hearing issues considering how common i have found it to be.

You'd be amazed how many little kids have hearing aids once you start looking.

I don't see it as a problem as long as it's mentioned in the review. If they did have someone they felt comfortable asking about the noise level I think that would helpful as well, but not required.

I see no issue with it, if I truly want to know the bees rating I would read more reviews.
