When You Feel You Are Down Voted...

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
Everybody has a different personality and nobody is perfect...

Because of that people have the most various opinions about different things, and as we aren't perfect the chance is always there that what one thinks to be a perfectly smartest opinion may not be so smart, and it helps to realize it by getting to know opposite opinions about the same topic...

When I feel that people outvoted me and I look like I am the crazy one I still comment on all of them, always seeking to find truth in them, as much truth as I can understand with my maybe too unopen points of view, and I also try to keep my opinions in the "competition", to keep the dynamics of the conversation up, clash different opinions to generate a very enriching exchange of thoughts, so everybody can see a lot of points of the most opposite kinds, and decide for herself/himself what is most appealing as a conclusion...

Everybody has her/his own path, and what works excellently for one may be devastating for the other, so it is most important to nurture the principles of free will of choice as long as it doesn't harm others, or the person herself/himself... (Though I still find it a very sensitive topic to hurt ourselves, if for example someone should have the right to die at will while others don't want it to happen, if life is really so important to live when one is in such a pain and really no one is there to give a hand, though it is a very philosophical topic going beyond morals and rules of society, bringing the topics of eternal soul and other stuff up... ^^)

When you feel upset about some voting results you can try to keep your opinion running, as long as you keep your style moderated and polite, because nobody wants to feel hurt as well, and honesty is always more important than kindness, better to say kindness is almost as important as honesty...

I might feel a little upset, but not too much. Most likely, I will look at the voter's reviews to see how they would write a similar type of review, if they have. That way I can see what it is they expect to see in a review, because surely they would include these things themselves. If I can't see anything, then I just blow it off.

If the vote was obviously uncalled for? I just shake my head because it's obvious that person didn't really read the review or thought I down-voted one of theirs.

It has happeneded to me on the few reviews that I have wrote..
I just recently joied EF a couple months ago and I only have 5 reviews, and on one of my reviews this lady was being really rude and was saying i miss spelt a hole bunch of things, when I went back and re-read everything I only found one word miss spelt.. This really ticked me off about how some one can sit there and be soooo critical and rude about my review when they could have just been polite whilie telling me that I messed up ....
And then when I posted back and asked what I did wronge, no reply :/

I have only come across one of my reviews where I and many others felt it was very detailed and extremely useful where someone voted somewhat useful. My review rated an otherwise 5 star product as a 3 star. I stated many times that everyone is different and that this product just wasn't that great for me. For whatever reason this contributor rated my review pretty low. I was somewhat upset about this, but I'm not going to message them, or report it.

It may have very well been someone that thought my review was too negative and we all have different thought processes and opinions. It was and still is my only bad review rating. Otherwise all my other reviews have 95% EU rating and the other 4% is Useful.

In most cases I'd ignore it, but today I had someone rank a review as "totally useless" because they thought the review was too short. It seemed "too short" because it was an off-site blog review, so they were only seeing the summary, and I don't think they understood that they had to click the link to read the review on my blog. I was pretty frustrated as it was a review I'd put a lot of hard work into, and I'm pretty sure they voted it down because they HADN'T READ IT. I messaged them explaining the off-site review system, because in a case like this I think it's important to understand that not all reviews appear in their complete form on EF and it's necessary to click through. Trying not to take it personally, just hope this doesn't happen to others.

Yeah, I get annoyed when an individual tells me I need "more details" but won't tell me what they had in mind. I am happy for constructive criticism, and I try to be as thorough as possible, but it's not helpful if I have no idea what they think is missing.

I also think that some people will like some writing styles more than others- I try to include humorous anecdotes when I can, but I'm sure that's not everyone's cup of tea. But I don't think anyone deserves a "not useful" unless a review is truly awful, and having unfairly received one today, I can sympathise. We all put a lot of energy into our reviews and want to do our best!

Do nothing, except look for a post in the comments section on why. I just don't have the time to hunt people's reasons down.

I really don't like when I have a comment of "Great review" but a less than great vote. But I guess that is what point farmers do. Sigh!

I never pay attention to how people vote on my reviews. I find it overly harsh for anyone to vote on the lowest of the scales though. Reviews have guidelines, and they are also approved. Therefore, a review has to be somewhat useful! I think constructive comments go a long way versus down voting someone. Maybe I'm just too nice!

I know, I don't like that either. I always just remind myself that it's one bad vote in a sea of good votes... and it won't affect my rank or the quality of my reviews. (But I still spend a few minutes feeling REALLY annoyed.)

I honestly think there is a very small amount of people that will do it just because they want to be an ass. I know some people are like that, down vote a review because it has 30+ EU votes just to piss someone off. Some people get off on that lol. But yeah, after a short while I was over my annoyance with the down vote on one of my reviews and realized, almost all my reviews have mostly all EU votes, so obviously I am doing something right for the most part.

I've been bombed with downvotes in the last week. They are all for reviews of mine for anal toys, all with all or mostly all EU votes and someone came through and voted "Not at all useful" for about 4 or 5 of my old reviews. I'm assuming it's the same person, with different identities, because their identities look similar and the two "people" have done NO reviews themselves in this identity. I have a pretty good idea who it might be, too.

WTF is wrong with people? Do they really think a review with 40 EUs is really "not useful at all." It didn't used to bother me a lot, but shit, it's been 4 or 5 downvotes in about 2 days.

FTR, I'm in a really pissy mood today.

That is crappy ! I'm sorry!

I have seen a lot of these types of profiles lately that you described. A lot of point farmers have popped up in the spotlight lately. I'll see 2-5 accounts all random gibberish names, and all of them will post on the exact same products the exact same day with 3 letters of gibberish. Sorry you were down voted

Okay, I realize this does not affect ranking in any way, but this is annoying...Lauren and I both have lingerie reviews up in this week's rumble, and a relatively new contributor has voted "somewhat useful" on both of them. For both reviews, this is the ONLY vote of "somewhat useful." (Oh, and then didn't add a comment on either review, btw.) The person voted for other reviews in the rumble and elsewhere as "useful" or "extremely useful," but none of these were lingerie reviews. So it appears, because the person does not personally like/wear lingerie, they downvote lingerie reviews as being less useful to them. Correct me if I am wrong, but that's not the way it is supposed to work, is it? We rate the review, not the product.

I get upset, but don't generally do anything. I think I should start messaging the person and figuring out why if they don't leave a comment; to make my reviews better. But considering most ppl of the internet are rude (at least I've come across a lot of rude people) I'm kind of scared to do anything...

I know it sucks when this happens, Missy, but we've pretty much been told not to do this. If you think someone is trolling the site or targeting you with down votes, put them into a document and send it to one of the Administrators, along with as much info as you have about the down voters.

I'm sorry you got hit, too.

I had someone contact me because others told her I voted SU on a *clearly* EU review. But I didn't - I left a very positive comment and voted EU. I don't know if people are overconfident in their ability to guess who voted what, or if there is some weird retaliation going on for something, probably some of both. Anyway, I'm not concerned about it, I just thought I would mention it so that when it happens to someone else, they will know they're not alone.

Personally, on my reviews, I don't really keep track of the votes or care much exactly what others vote. Everyone has their own opinion and voting is one place they express it - it's not an exact science of "if a review has this and this, then it gets this vote." I just make the best review I can and post it proudly. I do hope for a positive trend in the voting, and I do re-evaluate my reviews later and consider what could be improved.

Someone who is just starting out obviously won't write reviews that are as thorough as long-timers, and the mentor program is great for helping, but I think some of it is just experience and everyone should be positive and helpful to everyone else. If someone chooses to be a troll and try to ruin this for everyone else, just don't let them affect you. And it's always best to give people the benefit of the doubt, in my opinion - no need to let something like one vote ruin your day, or you will have many ruined days, even if you're the best reviewer here.
