Would you review a product that you did not own? 2 Part Question

Contributor: xKrystalx xKrystalx
Nope. I wouldn't be able to write an honest review if I didn't own it.

Not to be weird, but in a remote case, it could be possible. I've randomly ran across EF books at a local library, but that would be sort of like temporary possession. Sorry, not trying to be an ass by dreaming up "what if" scenarios. Lol

No... that doesn't make sense. I could see potentially reviewing a toy that a partner has that I've played with a few times during intercourse. Not one I'd never laid my hands on though.

I don't see how you could review a toy without owning it!

NO! Aboslutely not and I honestly don't see how that is acceptable behavior in the review program. Is it? I'm not sure, but I would say this is kind of dishonest and not very tasteful of a thing to do. Why would you review a toy you've never used? The only reason I can imagine is to get extra points or something and that's kind of cheating to me. I mean those reviews are taken seriously by most of us and I'd feel very dishonest about doing that. I never have and NEVER would. I want to make sure my reviews are as accurate as possible and to me I need to use a toy at least 5-10 times before I feel I can give a fully accurate/reliable review so to not even own the toy or have used it would never be acceptable to me. How can you know anything about it if you've never used it? Well, you could read other's reviews, but that's wrong to just take from someone else's experience when yOU've not used it yourself. I don't know, but I totally think it's unethical big time!

I was lucky enough to own a couple toys to begin with, I wish there were listings for the ones I've owned in the past. Also happy to share my dislikes and downfalls because for someone with a small budget I kinda splurged on the toys in their day and was very disappointed.

Someone on another toy website went around posting reviews like 'I took this item to a swingers party where I used it on three women at once and wow, it was so hot.' with not a word said about the item itself. It was obvious fantasy spam, and the reviews got scrubbed from the site. But at least in that case, no one would buy the item from false information. Well, unless they thought it would get them admission to a swingers party.

Then I saw one on Amazon the other day that rated it one star and said 'I was going to buy this item, but after reading the other reviews, I decided not to.' WTF? Why did you review it to say you didn't even buy it?!

Yeah, there are some dumbass / jerkass people out there.

That's what I'm hoping. I don't get how you could even consider reviewing something you don't own. I had some Kama Sutra massage oil a few years ago and thought to myself, "Hey, I could review this!" Then thought about how I couldn't possibly remember enough about the product to do a good review and decided against it. And that was something I did own at one point!

how do you review a product that you've never tried before? it makes no sense. also, i'm pretty sure you can get in trouble with Admin if they find that someone has done this...

Why? I just don't see the point... reviews are supposed to contain helpful information about the toy for future buyers. How can you do that if you've never used it?!

I have no idea how someone could possibly do this. How could you share your experience if you don't have one? It just makes no sense. Personally, I could never do this, and have never even thought about doing this. Honestly, I have owned some toys in the past that I have gotten rid of, and even though I have used them many, many times, I don't think I could do a fair review of it without having used it recently. I like to play with the toy a couple times when I am in the process of writing a review, and hold it, squish it, play with the controls, just to be sure I don't leave anything out about my experience. I couldn't do this if I didn't have the toy in my possession, let alone never having used it. That just seems ridiculous to me.

Absolutely Not!!! Why lie and cheat on Edens when there is no reason to? I have a collection of toys from before I joined that I review, but I do not understand how someone can give a satisfactory or honest review on a product they do not own or have not owned. I enjoy using my product thoroughly prior to the review, that is the fun aspect. I also keep in mind that others are going to use the review to base their purchasing decision, so it better be researched and accurate.I guess there are going to be cheats everywhere, but thankfully they will be found out in short order here on Edens!

I wouldn't. I've reviewed products that I don't own, but I've used them. It's just wrong to review something you've never tried. Especially when EF has the whole review program and everything set up, so you can get items to review them.
I'd never do it.

I voted maybe because just because you did not own it does not mean you did not use it. Like if you ended up sharing one with a friend and it was the friends, then I guess that would be ok. However I think that is wrong! Sorry did not see the did not use it. Then No that would not be ok, reviews are for people who use the product.

No and No... I'm a very honest person. I just wouldn't that. I may be behind on reviews (shame on me). But I will never review something I don't own or anything like that.

I wouldn't even know how to write it if I've never had it...

No, at least, not in the sense not ever trying the toy. I imagine it would be evident fairly quickly that a person didn't know what they were talking about.

However, if someone loaned someone their toy, that would be fine (although I don't think I would ever use a toy that somebody else used, personally).

I don't understand how I would be able to review a product if I have never even used it. If I don't own it and use it how in the hell could a make a fair overall judgement of the toy recommend it or discourage purchase. It just doesn't even make sense to write a review. Wouldn't that be considered fiction and not a review?

There's no way I would ever consider doing that because it's unethical. Eden's very good to all of us giving us a lot of opportunities to write and there's no need to write fake reviews. As a review reader, we would be misinformed and that's not cool.

I have not, I think it would be wrong to review a product that I have not personally used. It's one thing if you borrowed a product from someone and used it. But as for not using it all and reviewing it then that is wrong.

The clincher for me here was the "have never used" part.

I would probably review a product of someone elses if I had been able to use it, preferably multiple times. Condoms, certain toys, lubes.

As long as I'd used it legitimately I'd be okay with reviewing it. Ie if I felt like I had enough experience with the product to tell people what I thought of it, how to use it, what it's made of, all of that with an ounce of integrity.

I would possibly review something I've used, but don't own - someone else's lube, a friends lingerie, etc. but even that is iffy, cuz you can't access it whenever you need to.

I am a bit baffled by this poll...lol. You can't give an honest review of an item you have never used. How on earth could you really attest to the usefulness or function of it.

I wouldn't want to review a product I've never used because that's not really a fair review for people who use reviews to decide if they want to buy something.

Well I just ordered a toy I was planning on using, but due to it's size when it arrived I wasn't able to. I had my mom give me her opinions and thoughts on it after using it. I wrote the review from my initial impression of the toy and what she told me. I feel it was an accurate review because I was stating that it wasn't what I expected and prevented me from using it. It was a really good toy, just too big for me.

I could never do this, at the most I would comment about the product on the product page if I had something to say about it. But if I had not physically tried the product out, I could not lie about it in a review.
