"Bad" Reviews?

SexyLilPixi SexyLilPixi
So, I just started the Ambassador program at the beginning of the month & I wasn't that crazy about my first toy. Now, I know it's honesty that's wanted in a review, but I just feel kinda bad that there's a review on my blog of a toy I don't really like if there's not supposed to be.

My question (which I have yet to run across the associate I've been emailing with) is - Should reviews still be published off-site if it's on something the reviewer doesn't really like, or should only products I like & write good reviews for be published?

Confused newb & feeling bad if I did things the wrong way & got off to a bad start.

I think its good to write reviews about products you don't like. You can point out what you do not like and then others can see if they feel like they would have the same issue.

Personally, I think you made the right choice. It helps with credibility torwards your good reviews if you give honest opinions. Not every toy is a good toy!

First, read some reviews written by top reviewers where they didn't like the toy. It will give you an idea of how to write one. I know the first time I had to do it, it was difficult.

Second, it is good for your readers to see that you will not lie to them, even if you go the product free. That way they will really trust you when you say something is great.

Thanks all. I feel better about it now. Of course I promise to always be honest. And regardless if I like the product, I'm always going to have wonderful things to say about Eden. I LOVE this company!

If I get a product to review (in general) I always try to review it even if I don't like it. What I do is try to find something good about it or turn my negative into a positive. I also make a point to say this is my opinion, since people respond to things differently.

Example: I really didn't like a toy I got at all. It just didn't work for me, but I could see where someone else may like what I didn't like. I pointed out that my dislike of the product was my opinion and you may feel differently if you try it.

That's exactly what I did in that first review. The last paragraph explains who it might be good for if not for me & how different people enjoy different things.

Review the product for the product. If you don't like it, say why. Also say if the product did work the way it was described. What you didn't like, someone else might and vice versa.

I think it's good to read reviews where the writer didn't like a toy.

I personally have a hard time writing my reviews on items I did not like. And I find I put them off for a long time. But I know as a reader of reviews I like to hear when something did not work. It gives me views from different prospectives. That way I can pick what item will work best for me.

You can be brutally honest I wouldn't mind. It's no better if you are trying to hide flaws.

Yes! You did the right thing! I personally, would much rather read an honest review where a person honestly says this toy is crap, than to not know and end up wasting my money. I really admire people who do write honest reviews. I love reading raw honest ones. But always state why and what was bad so we know if it's a personal preference or just a plain crappy toy. My first toy from here was the platinum edition butterfly and it was so bad and I struggled with how to write a review without sounding rude, but in all honesty, that toy was crap. I respect my readers and those who read my reviews here and the companies too much to lie about a toy. The butterfly I had wouldn't reach the clitoris while the shaft was inside (a major defect or poor quality, actually both!) and I wrote the truth. I haven't touched that toy since. I'm glad now that I was honest, because that probably saved someone money.

The good part about reviewing is that your job is do an honest review, good or bad. We aren't reviewing to try and sell the product, we are here to let eeryone know how it worked for us.

If something didn't work out for you then that can actually be a good thing (not for you of course ) because others that follow your reviews and have similar tastes will know to leave it alone.

Another pro to writing the review on a "bad" product or experience is that the manufacturer of the product can get a better idea of how to improve it.

It also adds to your rank and gives you more experience when writing reviews like this, even though they suck and I personally have a hard time writing them myself!

I know we aren't supposed to specifically bash a company or get mean or downright rude about the product, but your experience and opinion is what the readers want! So have at it and write away!

I do know this about the honesty factor, and honest I will always be.

My concern when starting this thread was whether it was a good idea or not to have the products I was less than crazy about on the blog. For instance, only posting the reviews on products I like to my blog, BUT that is the exchange agreement; one product a month for an honest review on my blog.

I was also concerned with how it may look for the company if I don't like the product on my blog, but anyone with a brain would realize Eden is not the actual manufacturer (unless of course it was an EdenFantasys toy such as the bullets or something). Even if I don't like the product, it's always apparent how much I love the company.

The first review I did in exchange for an item was not a good one at all. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one with a little anxiety about that, but y'all are right. If you only ever post good reviews, where is your credibility?

I believe your personal opinion on the product is best. You can always point out your pros and cons and why you think someone else might prefer the product when you did not.

I was worried about this as well, as I was not at all crazy about the 2nd toy I received. I asked around and also talked to someone here at Eden and I was assured that they always want honest reviews. They ask that your review not be derogatory (i.e. "this was the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen") but that you be honest and provide constructive criticism.

Hope that helps answer your question!

I wouldn't worry about having "bad" reviews on your blog - it shows your readers that you have a real and honest opinion.

As long as the reviewer is factual and honest about why the product did not work I will take the review seriously. If the reasons it did not work for them are due to personal preference and not an actual defect in the product I will still buy the item if I think I would enjoy it.

Everyone has different taste and expectations of what an item will do and how it will perform. That is what review are for. Comparison of pros vs. cons, allowing you the option of how best to spend your money and time.

I do disregard obvious negative campaigns against an item. People that are constantly negative, or have nothing factual are usually trying to keep other people from enjoying a product that could be perfect for them, and should refrain from posting reviews. On the flip-side, someone that finds every product they review to be amazing or perfect are suspicious and I feel they are: a)working for a company, b) a spammer, or c)a liar.

If I'm giving a negative review I try to mention the fact that "This wasn't for me, but that doesn't mean you won't like it, you'll have to give it a try and see if it is for you." That usually helps LOL
