Off-Site Review Requirements

Kayla Kayla
As an editor, I'm not sure I understand the off-site review requirements. Last I knew, it required at least 300 words with at least two links, but when I looked in an off-site review last week that was waiting to be approved, an admin had commented on it saying that a video was that was needed as the off-site review.

Can someone please clarify off-site review requirements so I know what I'm looking for? (As a sidenote, I'm speaking about unassigned off-site reviews, not assigned ones. I assume assigned ones make the linking/text a requirement.)

I would appreciate that too. I edited an offsite review according to the requirements you mentioned, though I was told 200 words minimum, and I got a poor rating for my edit. I was told it was because the review never should have been published, since it was such a poor review. Though I thought it was not my job to even read the review itself, just the parts that were one EF.

I think you're supposed to read the review to check for the word count and that there are 2 links to EF (at least I think that's what Carrie Ann said previously). Since you have no access to edit the actual review, you should not be rated on that, just what appears on the EF site.

That doesn't make sense that a video would be required especially if it is an unassigned review. I'm pretty sure my requirements were 200 words and 2 links. One to home page under the words sex toys/adult toys/dildos/vibrators/ adult shop and one to the item being reviewed.

Is it possible that this person posted the review as part of the ambassador program? There is only one link and 150-200 words required in the ambassador program.

Ambassador doesn't come through the editing system. And I thought it was supposed to be the word count and the 2 links to EF, but on a past off-site review (that only included a video) the contributor attempted to send it to admin and was told that the video itself was okay for an off-site review and that it didn't require text. So ..yeah. I'm just confused.

@Misfit Momma - it wasn't that the video was required. It was the fact that the text wasn't there that confuses me.

Admin input would be awesome (when you guys get in on Monday. Hope you had a good Holiday!)

The problem is, certain bloggers have different arrangements with us. Some have been doing offsites in a specific way for years, well before we put the current guidelines into effect. Some do "HNT" reviews that are primarily images. Some do JUST a video, no text.

NO reviewer has the right to say "you shouldn't have published this at all" and rate someone's editing badly.

The ONLY things you guys can edit (and, hence, the only thing you should be rated on for your editing) are the pros, cons, summary and check that the link leads to an actual blog with a post/review.

Anything that is on the actual site/blog is out of your hands and not your responsibility as editors to deal with. (It would be great if we could have y'all checking for word count and links but the fact of the matter is none of the editors know what arrangement we have with which bloggers so it simply doesn't work to have you do so. It ends up being far too much messing around when the bloggers then email me and say "wtf? I've been doing it this way for 2 years, why did this person tell me I have to do something different?")

So. In short.

Edit pros, cons and summary. Check that the link works. That is all. If something looks bad or incomplete to you, feel free to message either me or Jenn - I do sex blogs, Jenn does regular blogs and mom blogs. We'll take a look. But please don't decline offsite reviews or send them back.

Those who are rating - stop being so hard assed. The editors are to edit onsite grammar, spelling and punctuation, ensure the review is readable, NOT mentor people or tell them they've written a bad review. We have NEVER edited the offsite portion of reviews. Ever.

All editors should be getting an email about this soon - at least that's what was in the plans last meeting we had to discuss it.

Thank you very much for the clarification. That helps tons.

I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is to not be afraid to ask questions if something doesn't seem right. There's nothing wrong with shooting someone an email (staff or another editor) if there's something that confuses you.

The worst thing that could happen is error or mistake catching on and then EVERYONE starts doing it because it's assumed to be the way it's done.

So, basically, if it's an off-site review, just check the on-site portions and approve it? I know we can't edit off-site, but I had just assumed that the reviews required like..at least a link or something. Shall do. Thanks for the clarification. I suppose, if it wasn't supposed to be approved, then the admin would unapprove it.

Is there plans to require off-site reviews to go through admin instead of the editing program because of these pre-made deals?

Not really, since there are actually very few of them. I think we have special deals with maybe 5 bloggers and most of them review once a month, once every six weeks, so it won't be a huge issue.

Offsites assigned by Jenn or I are also checked by us. The ones that may slip thru the cracks are monthly free reviews advanced reviewers choose to do offsite and non verified reviews, probably mostly from new folks who are not advanced yet.

You guys can always message us if an offsite is missing something, so we can check and determine if it's a special circumstance or not. For the most part, though, offsites pretty consistently meet requirements unless it's a new person who had done a non verified type.

So....assume they should follow the guidelines unless the person has been around EF for awhile? If they don't follow, message you and ask?

This is sort of un-related but still about the offsite review requirements. Are there any rules about posting images from the EdenFantasy site? I am doing an unassigned review of an item, and I want to post a picture of the item in the review. Can I just cut and paste it from the website?

Also, can some of the links be affiliate links as long as their at least two direct links?

Thanks for the help.

I do this sometimes, I just write "image courtesy of Edenfantasys" and it doesn't week to be a problem!
