Ranking Confusion

Miss Cinnamon Miss Cinnamon
I was just browsing reviewers who joined recently, and I noticed something curious. Two reviewers can have just one review written, and have similar usefulness rankings on their reviews, but have vastly different personal ranks. For example, one reviewer's review was ranked "somewhat useful" and she has a 3.9 ranking. Another reviewer's review was ranked "useful" but he has a ZERO ranking.

What accounts for this drastic difference?

Well, rank takes into account different things like forum and comments activity. While it might seem like a small difference, it really adds up if you're active on the site over time.

To my knowledge, both reviewers are relatively new (joined within the last month or so). While activeness on the site does add up in terms of reviewer ranking, I don't think a simple month of activity would count for nearly 4 points of difference.

The ranking system is one of those things I wished were spelled out by EF somewhere on the site. If it is I haven't seen it. I didn't know rank had to do with anything other than votes received on reviews.

Seems like I'm downing EF a lot in multiple forum postings, but just to be clear, I love EdenFantasys! I am honored to be part of such an open and welcoming community. It's just that I come from a long career in the legal field and I like everything spelled out - i's dotted, t's crossed, etc.

It's somewhere, the exact percentages. Track through the forum, I can't seem to find it right now.

link Found.

(The above comment was me. I REALLY wish they'd put the "signing as" thing in the forums like it's in the comments. Or my partner would remember to log out. Implementing the "signing as" would be much easier. )

I feel like I do everything in the activity factors and I'm still stuck at 5. Like, I just wrote a review and my rank didn't increase at all.

I noticed the same ting with my past couple reviews. But you have to remember that how many reviews you've written is looked at in relation to the average amount of reviews written by members. (And other factors are in relation to the whole as well)

I've been at my current rank (give or take .1) since the update. I wouldn't worry about it.

Also, I just looked at your rank versus your number of reviews. I'd be quite pleased if I were you!! Keep up the great work.

Thank you all for the information. This was a great topic to start again Miss Cinnamon because I would have never thought to look for it in previous forum postings.

I would say that one of them has probably applied and accepted to be an advanced reviewer and the other simply hadn't done so yet.. maybe.

But you can't apply to be an advanced reviewer until you have two reviews. I had originally thought the same thing.

Your rank is not stuck, it is growing slowly, you will reach 5.1 soon.

Contributor rank is recalculated once a day. This is why you may see "Discrepancies" between usefulness and rank. All of them should be resolved next day.

Ah, yes. I see now. Thanks, Neuron Geek, for clearing that up!

I was curious about all of this myself. It's nice to see that it's not just about writing reviews, but community participation as well.
