If there's a specific situation like where somebody is asking about a product you have reviewed, I think it's ok to post a link to your review while explaining stuff. Randomly posting links to your reviews? Not so much. Posting the hell out of them on Twitter and Facebook? Sure, go right ahead.
Do you promote your reviews? Do you think it's wrong for someone to promote their own, and how do you promote them?
I do not promote my reviews. I feel that the focus of the reviews are to act as a collective opinion of the product by people that have actually used the item, not a contest or a definitive fact. I use the reviews as a guideline of the pros & cons, check reviewer profiles and then make up my mind about purchasing the item or not, depending on who has the most similar likes and dislikes as I do.

I'm not talking about a contest. I'm talking about promoting the review, the product, company and yourself to get of votes on them. A lot of people have been talking about not having the opportunity to have their reviews even seen because of how quickly they post, and the review page doesn't rotate them.
We don't current promote our reviews but that isn't a bad idea to do so when someone is questioning a product on here and to promote them on a social networking site or blog. Just would need followers for them first lol.

I have referred to a review and linked to it - but I don't do it often. Most of the time I link to the product where the reader can see multiple reviews.

I don't blog, but I have mentioned some of them on my Twitter account. I see no reason not to. It's good for me, and good for Eden if more people see the site and the reviews.
I don't go overboard, I've probably mentioned 3 or so reviews on Twitter, I usually forget. In a great while, I may link to a review on a thread, if someone is looking for specific information about a product and my review has the info they want, instead of repeating it. Otherwise I'll just link to the product page.
I wouldn't consider what I do promotion, since I never link them more than once unless in conversation to show someone something. I am alright with it when other people do it, but I have a great dislike for the forum thread posts where people say, "Check out my new reviews!" It's irritating.
I try to promote reviews as part of the Social Media Ambassador Team. I don't do it as much as I would like, but I'm trying to do more of it. I want to be more deliberate about giving recognition to the reviews since that is what sets the EF site apart from most other sites.
In case some of you don't know, I promote the higher rated reviews (written and video) on @EdenReviews and @EdenTube. That's on Twitter, if you don't know.

I *DID* know....
*looks around wondering if anyone else shares my enthusiasm*
...I've never even *thought* about promoting my reviews. I don't have an opinion either way as to whether it's "right" or "wrong"; the idea just never crossed my mind at all.
I promote mine on Twitter the most, followed by Facebook, since I do a fair number that are on my blog. I don't see anything wrong with promoting reviews on Twitter and Facebook.
I don't see anything wrong with linking a review in the forum, if someone has a specific question and you're pointing out your review or another review that has the answer. But random posting of them in the forum? No.
I will post a link on the forum if someone asks a question that I answered in my review. I also have no issue with people promoting their reviews on other sites. I find it very annoying when someone creates a forum thread just to let people know they have a new review.
I have linked to a review that wasn't mine in the forums to either show an example or to help someone out when asking about a toy. If I read a review that answers their question and is very helpful then I'll post it. So I guess I should have also clicked "other" in the poll.

I did not know that. I think it is great that you do that JR!

I haven't even thought of that, that would definitely irritate me as well.
Luckily I haven't seen that, or I would flag it as spam.

I really don't write reviews all that often at the moment, so when I write one, I mention it on Twitter (which is linked to my Facebook account, so it ends up getting mentioned both places). I don't see anything wrong with it at all. I don't like the threads about "read my reviews" either, though. That seems a bit much. And if everyone did that, the forum would be even more full of spam than it already is.

While that is nice, what is meant by higher rated? More votes or extremely useful votes compared to other votes?
While I do not think that promoting reviews is bad, I think it should be done to spread more knowledge rather than get more votes. For example on a recent review I did, I hoped that more people read it, even though it has many other reviews. The reason is because the same product that was reviewed 1-2 years ago has had changes made to it. While the "promoted" reviews have more votes, the actual reviews are outdated for the product because some major changes to the product have been made over the past couple of years. Unfortunately not many see my new review because the product reviews that are promoted are the ones that got 21 votes versus 5 votes and are considered to be the most valuable in information. This is simply not so. It would be better if Eden randomly places reviews on the product page so that all reviews are out there up front at random times.
FYI - the product: Naughtibod If you look at reviews it shows 25 votes for the most helpful positive review and 8 votes for the most helpful negative review. The problem is that the most positive review was Sept 2008 and the negative review was Dec 2010, both before changes were made from the naughtinano to the naughtibod. While they still might be somewhat helpful, the information is outdated in some areas.

I think you're misunderstanding. He doesn't go through and find reviews that are highly rated, but older. These are always (at least the ones that *I* have seen) recently published (within a week, I think) reviews that are well-rated (or for hot, new toys).
I don't promote my reviews and find it kinda annoying when people post in forums about their own reviews. If it is on a social network or blog, that's fine.
I think it's fine to promotes ya review. There's so many going through each day and they can tend to get lost in the sea of reviews.
I don't bother.
I have a blog that I eventually put the link back here to my reviews but I don't keep it up to date too well cause no one goes there. It's more so for myself and if any outside friends happen to want to read my reviews - I can send them my blog link.
The only time I promote my reviews is when I add a video, then I just post it to FB or maybe twitter. A lot of the time the video is added after the review has been pushed of the main page so I want to give folks a link to the review so they do not have to search for it. I have done it when I know folks are looking for that review as well.
Other than that I am not to concerned about it, if folks read it then great, if not life does go on.
