What's the protocol for saying Thanks for a vote?

Raven Quince Raven Quince
I've just started reviewing for EF and my first review has gotten quite a few (well to my limited view) "Extremely Useful" votes. Because I'm new here, I'd like to thank the people who took the time to read my review and thank them for their vote. I think it's polite and a good way to start to connect with people who've bothered.

For those who've commented, that's easy. But for those who've not commented but have voted, what is the best way to thank them? What's the protocol for this?

If I post to their wall, is it seen as spammy or like I'm trying to drive up my reviewer rank? (does that even factor into this equation?)

I saw mention somewhere that you can send people private messages. Would this be the way to go? Do they have to follow me back to do that?

What do you do?

Many thanks from the newbie.

I don't know how most other reviewers deal with this, but for me personally, those that take the time to compliment me in the comments section of a review, I generally respond to the masses to say "Thank You!" as it is polite, and proper etiquette. However, that's about the extent of my written "thanks". I am appreciate of those who read, enjoyed, and voted on my review, but I think it may become a bit much to try and write to each individual, when they didn't write anything to you either. I never want to come across as fishing for compliments or votes from others either.

Anyhow, that's just me personally, but it does have me a bit curious as to what other reviewers do.

I don't generally give or receive thanks for positive voting on reviews. However, I've observed others thanking voters for positive votes through commenting on the review itself, posting it on the voter's wall, and I assume that PMing would be appropriate as well (not all 3 at once though). If you want to make sure that the voter receives it, the latter two options work better, since not everyone looks back on reviews they voted on and didn't have any questions about.

I can understand not wanting to come on too strong, or spending loads of time thanking voters. I guess, being new, I am very appreciative of this early support. I'm also looking for ways to connect to people. I'm sure after reviewing for a while, that feeling might dissipate. But I can definitely understand where you're coming from. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks Miss Cinnamon. That seems like good advice. Likely a PM is better rather than cluttering up someone's wall and my follower's streams with "Thanks for the vote." wall posts.

I suggest the wall option myself.

Just dropping by someones wall and saying "Thanks for taking the time and reading, voting, and commenting on my review! "

Well you do not have to do the "! " that is just sorta my trademark!

That is just what i would do

Thank them by writing more quality reviews because, honestly, you're going to rack up a lot of votes (many of which will be positive) and it's simply absurd to try to thank them all.

I say my thank you's in the comments section of the actual review.

It's true...the novelty will wear off. But, for my first post...I think it's still a nice thing to do. Think of it as an icebreaker.

Good plan. I think that I'll do that when the ability to keep up with individual votes wanes.

I actually appreciate you asking this as well. I am relatively new to the community, and I feel it is appropriate to thank everyone who comments on my reviews. I do that by simply commenting back on the review page.

I don't send out thanks for the votes, cuz that's a lot of people to track down, and I don't want to clutter their walls or inboxes. I mean, imagine getting thanks for every single vote you make during the course of a day, a week, or even a month. Even if you aren't super active, that can add up to quite a lot.

But I do appreciate the votes and the comments, and I try to show that without going too overboard.

But, that's just how I handle it. Being polite is never a bad thing.

I really like the flower

Though I wondered how people reacted when someone voted but didn't comment. I always try to put in the effort to comment and at least say nice review, but not everyone does that. I do think that if you want to thank them, then do the same for them. Go and read their reviews and vote for them.

I try to comment on every review I vote for. Some decide not to, which is perfectly all right.

I try to read everyone who reads, comments or votes on my reviews, but it can be difficult. I had 19 votes (my highest vote count ) on my last review, but I do make a point on trying to do the same. Sometimes, I wish if I missed someone, they would message me and ask me to read comment and vote on their review, because I may have forgotten them and it certainly was not on purpose.

Pandahb and Viktor - you are right, it would be best to go vote and comment on their reviews too.

So then, that begs the question - how do you manage it all from a time perspective? If you had 19 votes, that means for every one review you write, you feel compelled to read and comment on approximately 19 other reviews.

I'm not saying it's not an optimally good idea - because it is - but I'm humbly asking, how do you manage to cover all these bases in relation to all the other demands of life and leisure?
