Backlash or voting without caring..

I've noticed this seems to link to our spammer problem however..

It seems that after watching a bit, if our contributors honestly vote, and the spammer has a bad review, they obviously put no effort into it, otherwise our contributors wouldn't vote poorly. Our contributors seem fairly honest. What I've seen a bit of lately is these spammers voting poorly on the good reviews in return, just to be spiteful.

I almost am afraid to vote on reviews that are bad, because I'm afraid of backlash, I don't think that's really fair. Again, I know this goes with the spammers, so I don't know. I'm not sure what to do, so I thought I'd express my concern here.

I think you're right about the spiteful voting, and Kristi addressed that in her announcement about banning Charlotte7/whoever. I really hope it stops. It's never really easy to vote honestly for a review, especially if it's a bad one, and this whole situation is making people afraid to vote. I hope the person/s responsible for the downvoting have been taken care of, and their votes removed. If it's proven that the person is downvoting, their votes should be erased from other people's review...I hope that makes sense, the way I put it

We've had this problem before and it really sucks but it rarely causes any lasting harm. Let them downvote, if you feel your review has been unfairly catagorized due to a retaliatory strike then post it on the forums for the rest of us to take a look. You know we'll be honest Generally speaking there are enough people who read the reviews almost daily that it counteracts one or two nasty votes.

Good point. It was just a concern that crossed my mind, and I was like man, that would just suck. I should be careful when I vote.

If there are issues I try to send a private message to the reviewer before voting to let them change things around.

Usually I wind up forgetting to vote if they don't make the changes, so that part doesn't help, but I hope the messages are a plus.

Also, if you strongly suspect that someone is downvoting on your reviews, feel free to let an admin know. Downvoting is not cool and we do issue warnings for it. We encourage contributors to resolve these issues amongst themselves, but if you received a low vote and you truly believe it to be spiteful rather than honest, it's fine to let one of us know so we can investigate it.

I've experienced this recently and I've just let an admin know. Airen Wolf is right that it doesn't make a huge difference, although one of mine was brought down from an extremely useful overall to a useful overall. Not a huge difference even then though.

Always vote the way you feel. Even if you get one or two bad votes on your review, it won't matter because the rest will be good votes if you did a good review.
