The first anal toy my girlfriend and I got was the Glo Pop Plug. link
It was a great first time toy because it is small, not very intimidating, and comes in cool colors that glow in the dark. We had a lot of fun with it. Oh and it vibrates so it can be used in other ways

Ripple

I think the Ripple is a good starter toy. Starts small, gets larger, and is made of silicone. No worries about body reaction to different materials, completely sterilizable!
