I'm only so-so on anal play myself because it's hard for me to relax (it's all in my head), but my boyfriend loves it. We've tried using plugs during sex, thrusting, and as prep for anal sex, and they've always provided good sensation. I haven't tried just wearing one around the house, though I know quite a few people do and enjoy it.

As for it not stimulating you, I have found that movement is the key. If you're just going to sit there and do nothing, it's not going to do anything. Walking, fucking, wriggling, whatever--movement is important.

Anal plugs are used for all of the reasons you've listed, plus some others. My favorites would be to wear while love making, and prep for larger dildos. Also, my largest plug, the Tantus Severin Large, is by far the widest toy I own, and this I use for those times I'm feeling ambitious.

It can be for all of the above. I mostly just wear mine while out and about, because it feels cool.
