For me, 4"-5" long is plenty.

Depends on the person and the use. You're a guy, so you wouldn't want anything with an anally-useable length of less than 3 inches (so you can get prostate stimulation), and on the long side the limit is just your body and your tastes. If you want to keep the toy inside the rectum stick to one with under 7" insertable, if you like the feel of a toy going beyond the rectum then get 7+ inches of insertable length.

Length is partly about preference and partly about anatomy, both of which vary greatly from person to person. However, there are certain anatomical challenges that make lengths over 6 or 7" uncomfortable for the average person. For me 6" is great and 8" can be painful. I found out a lot about why this is the case on the following thread. link Personally, I only shop for toys that are between 5" and 7" in whatever texture and size that gets me going.
