Definitely not the Crystal Jellies, the material isn't very safe. I'd stick with silicone for a first anal toy. I like the Bootie plug personally, but that is more of a "leave in" plug rather than something for playing with.

I would say any of the ones on these searches:
more pluggy than probe-y
more probe-y, not for leaving in

All of those should be small enough for a beginner, and have enough of a base to be safe.

Edit: one of the reasons I dislike the ones you mentioned: the base does not really go in enough before widening, and the base is about the same girth as the rest of the toy. If you lost your grip on those toys, I'd honestly be worried about them slipping in, at least to the point where you'd have only a little sticking out to grab and pull back out!

I started with a plug, the little flirt. I then moved onto the Small Ace by tantus. I think I'll soon be comfortable enough to think about thrusty toys.

I started with link, it's silicone (woo!), pretty small, and cheap. I found it pretty good to start with.

go with a silicone plug. Stay away from the jelly and rubber plugs. Tantus makes some great plugs and dildos.

I'd pick a slim silicone plug to begin. You can sterilize it, and it will last longer. Even when experienced, sometimes you just want a good small plug.

I agree with everyone who said look for a small silicone plug to start with.

Along with everyone else, I think you should skip the unsafe materials and go for silicone. There are a ton of good, inexpensive, silicone beginner toys. The little flirt, slim, pleasure plug #1, plug of small lust, ripple small, eaze, and bootie are all great options.

Just like the review I've done on the Njoy Pure Plug Medium, my suggestion is to purchase a pricier but quality plug, rather than wasting lots of money on a bunch of cheaper but inefficient toys.

Pleasure Pearls

Great for beginners: small enough not to hurt; easy to sterilize.

Start with fingers, then move on to a silicone toy that fits your interests and size wants. Don't be limited to something that claims to be a "starter".

Jellies aren't typically very safe, it's always better to go with something better known for being safe for the body.
