Dildo starts to bruise?

sirdiederich sirdiederich
I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but. I've had a couple dildos (mostly from Doc Johnson, I believe) where the dildo starts to get blue/purple spots, like bruises. While I love the realism, I can't figure out why this happens or what it means. I generally wash them with warm/hot water and soap…could that be causing discoloration? I just purchased a new, lovely one and I'd love for it to keep its color. Thanks in advance to anyone who comments!

Mind telling us what material they're made of?

Jelly dildos will sometimes pick up the coloring of those around them if they are touching while stored. What are they made of?

Happens with rubber, PVC, and "real-skin" materials as well.

I've had this happen too. I assumed that something had "bled" onto it. But, this was before I knew what which ones were made of. I threw mine out. :/

I ran an experiment a few years ago with a jelly rabbit vibrator from Pure Romance (which I think was made my Cal Exotics) in which I stored it in a plastic ziplock baggie and also left it near a sharpie.

I believe the blog post of it is long gone, however not only did it start to turn colors from the baggie, but also just from touching the blue cap of the sharpie. Plus, the plastic of the baggie started to eat away at the jelly material.

Make sure you aren't storing it in a plastic bag or with other jelly or silicone toys.

Hmm, I'm thinking the best place to store it would be in a condom. But, like an unlubricated condom -- still that's gross. You should see the look on my face right now. hahaha

Ahaha, right?!

The vibrator itself wasn't worth crap, so I decided to see how long it would take to destroy. I kind of wish the blog was still up so you could see the pictures of it.

I should get another cheap jelly toy to run that experiment again as a kind of toy education tool.

Damn! I must have deleted the post and blog in my Great Blog Purge of '12 when my then girlfriend decided it was an abomination for me to write a sex blog or like being a camgirl.

But yeah, now I want to store toys incorrectly so that I can show people how important it is to store them right to make them last longer and not be gross.

Oooh, god that must have been a rough time for you. It's her own insecurities that caused her to make those demands...(shut up Stormy, you are NOT a therapist) *mad giggle fit*

Anyway...

I would love to see some of that cross-posted or featured as original content here, if you want to that is.

I would love to! I'm going to browse on here for a cheaper jelly toy to order just for this. I got rid of a lot that I didn't like and wish I had kept them for this purpose now, oh well!

We kind of sort of hijacked this thread, I'm sorry OP!

However, I hope the responses before the hijacking answered your question and I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have about toy storage

Whoops, yeah we did. Sorry OP!

But I'm also secretly excited because it's the first hijacked thread in months.

ALL FOR SCIENCE!

I will admit, I ordered it with an assignment discount. Mostly because I've never used a double ended dong before. Also, I've never used a realistic looking dildo, either. Not that I have someone else to be on the other end of it, but oh well.

AND OF COURSE BECAUSE I AM GOING TO DESTROY IT IN THE NAME OF EDEN EDUCATION!

I'm so glad I prompted a science experiment. I can't wait to see how it turns out! Thanks for the responses! To answer your question: I found out the material was silicone. I guess it has the same reaction as the jelly ones? Off to properly store my sex toys.

I don't quite think its as bad as jelly toys. But if you store silicone toys with other silicone toys then they can meld together. It's SO bizarre.

I've always heard the opposite: that so long as the toys are 100% silicone, they shouldn't react with one another, and that it's the silicone mixes that are the troublemakers. My silicone toys have all been stored together for years and nothing's happened.

Huh! Interesting! I've never stored my where they touch anyway, just out of habit. I end up wrapping mine up in my pair of silk restraints haha.

The breakdown as I understand it is:

ABS plastic, metal, glass, - fine with anything, though obviously glass should be padded to protect against scratches, and metal's heavy enough to do physical damage in some cases.

Pure silicone - can touch pure silicone. There may be an exception with VixSkin toys due to the way they're made, but I'm not 100% certain on that, and you're supposed to keep them in their tubes anyway since they supposedly indent easily.

All the rest - best stored singly.

Oh my goodness! I had the same issue with my doc johnson! the bruising was so bad I thought a pen had exploded in my toy bag! It now looks like the penis of a zombie. I used rubbing alcohol, I boiled and scrubbed it and nothing worked! Glad to know im not alone!

I recently had a dildo of mine come into contact with a sharpie marker after being haphazardly tossed into a dresser drawer together. I tried everything to wash it off but sadly there is a black (although now somewhat faded) splotch that looks like the poor thing was abused. lol

Might want to use glass or metal.
