Silicone dildo imperfections?

Contributor: Kestrel Kestrel
I just received the Vixen Leo dildo. I noticed it has a few tiny bumps on the head and shaft. They're more easily noticeable by feel than sight. Is this normal for silicone dildos?

I would guess the bumps are too small to be felt when using the dildo, so my main concern is whether this compromises the ability to sanitize the dildo. I usually use soap+water followed by bleach spray+rinse.

Have you noticed similar bumps on your silicone dildos?

They can happen, I don't see how it can really affect the toy much. I buy from niche companies that make toys on demand, and imperfections happen, it doesn't really affect the use of the toy at all.

I have noticed small imperfections. Think of it is as making your dildo unique! I don't really worry about them unless the toy is glass.

We have dozens of silicone toys and I have not noticed any surface bumps or imperfections. So no, that is not normal. But, if it is just a small bump, and does not compromise the surface integrity, you should be o.k.

It won't impact the ability to sterilize the toy, since it's the material that's non-porous, not the shape, and a bump impacts shape rather than material. I have about twenty silicone toys, and only found that kind of irregularity on one of them, but I suspect it has to do with the shape of the mold, and whether the toy has a visible seam or not. I haven't bought anything from Vixen yet, so I'm in the dark on that specific model.

This is the first time I've heard of imperfections you can feel on top-tier toys (Vixen, Tantus, Fun Factory). You might want to get in touch with Vixen if you have any concerns.

We have several hard silicone toys and they all seem 'perfect' - all smooth no seams, ridges or bubbles. I also have the O2 Revolution which is a softer toy which also appears perfect - but I wouldn't notice small imperfections due to the texture and color.

Honestly I'd be tempted to return it. They get a premium for this stuff 3-4x what a jelly toy costs and I doubt that's all material cost. When I pay a premium, I expect top notch quality.

There are no seams. Just a few tiny dots or 'bubbles'. It's like an tiny extra droplet of silicone fell on the dildo. Hard to see, but if you're feeling the dildo carefully, you can feel them. And there are also a few tiny divots, but those are hard to feel, easier to see. If only those extra droplets fell in the divots!

I'll call EF and Vixen and see what they think.

Of the few silicone dildos I do have so far, I have found imperfections on a couple. I haven't come across any on my other types but I guess it's just something that happens and it's not enough to stop me buying silicone!

Ultra bump!

The Tristan 2 (Vixen) I received today has quite a few silicone 'imperfections': small-ish, but visible and very obvious-to-the-touch bumps and/or bubbles. I haven't felt these in my other silicone toys (esp. from companies like Tantus), at least nothing as noticeable. I'm wondering if someone abused it (silicone lube?) and it was returned and resold. (Vixen's packaging is a simple, hard plastic box that lacks any type of tamper seal.)

That said, I don't think it will affect usage, but it was quite surprising to find.
