I try to get things I think they either need or want, but wouldn't buy for themselves. I really try not to get gift cards, but sometimes that seems like the only choice for people I don't know well.

I only buy gifts for my close friends, so usually I get them jewelry, accessories, or something I think they'll find useful. They like the thought put into it and I like watching them wear said gift or have it around

I make most of the gifts we give but sometimes we'll find something that we think is perfect for whoever is receiving it.

I give a lot of books. Also things I've made: scarves, hats, blankets, hand-painted candy jars filled with homemade candy, etc.

Usually gift cards. We have a lot of readers in my family and a gift card allows them to pick out books that they would love to read rather than having them give a list or me taking a chance. The only one who receives cash is my soon to be teenage niece. She is in that transitioning stage where she still has some childish interests while others are more teen oriented. So she can be rather tough to shop for right now.

When I am able to get gifts.. I figure out what the person wants.. & end up getting them what they want.
