There's glass and then there's glass

The thing you need to do is be careful in storage and periodically inspect the toy. If it gets scratched then force is concentrated on that line and it will be more likely to snap.

That said, it's unlikely that you'll have a problem unless you're very careless about storage. Glass is tough.

I can't get My Man to agree to a glass toy. His reason it, "What if it breaks inside you?" He is really afraid this will happen, although I've told him people use them all the time.

Maybe his concern really is warranted.

I think that the difference in many glass qualities is not if it is possible to break it but, instead how it will shatter when it breaks. Most types of glass will in fact shatter if given the right reason.

Lower quality glass will shatter into long shards with many many tiny pieces and lance like shards. Higher quality glass will instead burst into small chunks in varying size, but still very sharp on the edges. The idea is that regular chunks will be less dangerous and easier to clean up/remove than the irregularly shaped pointy shards.

I was really skeptical about buying a glass toy at first, because I didn't want to get a lower end one, and I wasnt sure if I'd really like glass to begin with. I was always afraid of it chipping or breaking and me not noticing it until It's too late! I don't think any value glass product is worth the risk.

I wasn't aware that there was non-borosilicate Pyrex. Thanks for the info, ScottA!

Honestly I think breaking a well made glass toy takes substantial effort and would be near impossible during sex play.

We have 6 or 8 very robust glass toys and my wife just absolutely loves them - especially in the summer. You don't need ice to make them feel cool for temperature play. The normal difference between room and body temperature is enough to get that 'cool kick' - which dissipates as it warms to body temperature. In the winter I'll just lay it on a heating blanket for a few minutes to get rid of the chill.

In my opinion your missing out on a lot of fun out of the fear of a minute chance of a failure.

I am glad I visited the forum because this is something I've never given to thought to. Now I will be much more careful.

I've got both ridiculously expensive and stupidly cheap glass toys and none of them show any wear and tear. Some of them have been dropped in the shower or sink without any chipping or shattering. You do have to be careful but the benefits of glass make it worth it.

I agree and tend to think those that do break are simply flawed. No one in the world can create products without the occasional "bad" one. It's a fact of manufacturing.

I've never heard of one breaking during use, either. Most times, you hear someone dropped it or it broke while cleaning or in storage.

I've tried to break some of mine by bending them with my hands or over a knee, like you snap a stick and have never managed to get them to even flex, much less break. If someone has a vagina stronger than my hands and can break one with it... I'll pay for the video! Lol

If you're concerned about breakage "proof test" your glass (at least borosilicate glass, don't know if i'd try it with soda-lime). Get a pan of boiling water and a pan of ice water. Go back and forth a couple of times, then let it sit on the shelf for a while. The boiling-to-ice temperature change is much more than your body will ever put it through.

I've been wanting a Bent Graduate as my first glass toy, but the info on this forum makes me a tad hesitant in getting glass at all. Can anyone attest to the quality of the BG and how shatter-resistant it is (or isn't)?

Get the BG! Or the Amethyst! Or the B2B!

I think what's most important is taking proper care of the toy. If you put a plastic bowl in the sink when you wash it, don't put it directly on hard and/or scratchy surface, don't drop it and invest in quality pouches (or make your own like me) you'll be as happy as I am with my Amethyst. The purple one is out of stock but the blue one looks even more interesting. The B2B is actually more extreme version of this toy with a less textured other end.

I agree with CarrieAnn there is bound to be a bad one in a large enough bunch. Even Lelo or FunFactory sometimes have to replace their products.

My Amethyst survived a long journey from the UK to Poland protected by a thin velvety pouch and a piece of bubble wrap inside a cardboard tube. It was fitted very tightly but still I'm sure it had some adventures.

Personally, I wouldn't mess with glass toys. The prospect of broken glass in private areas is so alarming, I'd be willing to pay any price to make sure that it doesn't happen!

If you can break a glass toy with your private areas, I'm genuinely afraid for anyone that has sex with you.

Seriously, people... if a glass toy is going to break it will be because you dropped it while cleaning it and it fell in the sink. You will break your pelvis before you manage to break a glass toy inside of you.

While there are cheaper glasses, ask yourself how often your mugs have spontaneously broken while you were drinking from them. Of course they haven't, they break when you drop them or other unrealistic uses or storage. It's the same deal with glass dildos.

I have literally only ever heard of one or two glass dildos breaking and they have always been from things like "and I dropped it in the sink"... and I've heard many more "and it didn't break, I was amazed."

YOUR BITS ARE SAFE. You will not chip your glass dildo inside of yourself and if you run your hand over it prior to inserting it to check, you can be sure there are no accidental storage mishaps waiting to slice up your insides.

I think its a risk either way. I feel safe as long as we store properly and check for imperfections before each use. Do not use from one extreme temp to the next.
