i dont know about eating it for dinner after that, though a compost pile would be fine.
as far as using a veggie not being green... come on, if a vegetable isn't green, i dont know what is. nothing could be greener than that, as far as biodegradability and low impact (anything manufactured is going to have a certain amount of fossil fuels going into its transportation and construction) one couldnt ask for more (less).
